Five Alive for Hottest TT
Work is under way to develop the hottest ever version of Ingolstadt's sports coupe, likely to be badged RS. It promises to be a real alternative to the Porsche Cayman when it goes on sale in 2008 for around 50,000 Euros.

The TT RS will use a 2.5-litre in-line five-cylinder petrol unit, its first five-pot engine in ten years. Early reports indicate that Audi will boost performance to a hefty 350bhp using twin sequential turbochargers.

All this grunt will be channeled through Audi's permanent 4WD quattro system and a six-speed manual gearbox though the DSG dual-clutch system will also be available as an option. Expect sporty styling with bespoke wheels, alloy-effect door mirrors, aggressive bumpers, RS-badges on the brakes and sill extensions.

Volkswagen's new 280bhp 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine, which is also lined up for a hot version of Volkswagen's European market Passat, will be released at the same time in a more refined form, to replace the 3.2-litre V6 currently powering the range-topping TT.

audi's just arent my type of car. you feel totally disconnected from the road. the engine is crammed as far up to the front as possible (thats a bad thing), however they fixed that in their new cars. electronics and switches that last about a week. awd sucks. the audi tt's awd system is heavily front biased (90:10) then it transfers power to the rear up to a maximum of 50:50. it would be more fun if i had a 10:90 split then transfered power

there is no way in hell id get a tt rs over a cayman s or even a base cayman

I never liked the TT's design. It looks like a luxury Beetle, but this one has some nice things under the hood.

well... because it is?

despite the RS label, it should look the same. no?

i don't like the front end... looks like a fat kid sat on the 1st generation nose to come up with that design. the center piece of the hood is too long and wide, like a big forehead german.

Well... when you see an M3 and a 3 series coupe, can't you tell the difference just like that?

It's not the same with this RS and the TT.
