Running with Scissors directed by Ryan Murphy
IPB Image

Young Augusten Burroughs (Cross) absorbs experiences that could make for a shocking memoir: the son of an alcoholic father (Baldwin) and an unstable mother (Bening), he's handed off to his mother's therapist, Dr. Finch (Cox), and spends his adolescent years as a member of Finch's bizarre extended family
Book-to-Film Adaptation.

Note Definately read the book before you watch the movie. After you do both in order, you'll understand why.

quote:
Dr. Finch: [taking out some pills] Would you like some of these?
Augusten Burroughs: What are they?
Dr. Finch: I just got some samples in the mail, so I don't know.

it also has an amazing soundtrack.

1. Pick Up The Pieces by Average White Band
2. Blinded By The Light by Manfred Manns Earth Band
3. The Things We Do For Love by 10cc
4. Mr. Blue (alternate version) by Catherine Feeny
5. One Less Bell To Answer by The 5th Dimension
6. Quizas, Quizas, Quizas by Nat King Cole
7. Poetry Man by Phoebe Snow
8. Bennie and the Jets by Elton John
9. Year of the Cat by Al Stewart
10. O Tannenbaum by Vince Guaraldi Trio

It's been getting panned by critics. sleep.gif
I'll still see it sometime though, looks decent enough.

i suppose for good reasons. i was semi-disappointed also. i'm in love with the book..but they say burroughs was more than satisfied with the way the film turned out so, eh...all's well that ends well.

I actually wanted to see this when it came out a while back.
But it was rated R.
So I couldn't see it at the theatre.

But I'll try looking for the book.

Has anyone seen it? I just finished the book, so yeah. I want to see how the movie will turn out. Though, I'm kinda curious to find out how they did some chapters, which are very... well. I don't know how to say it. Not suitable for most people, I guess?

The book is a lot more sexual than the actual movie.

I love Augusten Burroughs' books!

LOL they're making a movie out of this? The author of this book wrote it as a memoir, but later readers somehow discovered that he lied about most of it. There was a huge issue over this. Guess that doesn't matter..

I saw the movie in theaters years ago but I still need to read the book!
I love people who make me laugh. I honestly think it's the thing I like most, to laugh. It cures a multitude of ills. It's probably the most important thing in a person.

The movie has long ago been made. This thread was started in 2006, it is now 2009.
