I know it's not a real popular music choice nowdays.. But i have this one song that i found so pretty...

Mascagni - Cavalleria Rusticana

I think "Wings" - from the Brokeback Mountain OST is really pretty. ^^ Not really classical, more just instrumental.. but still nice.

And i was interested in listening to other songs... What are some other good classical songs?

I love classical music. It might not be appreciated as much nowadays. My favorite classical song or whatever is canon in D major. or was in D minor. i forget.

Cavalleria Rusticana is soooo beautiful and I've been trying to search for the music score of it without much success sad.gif

There are plenty of good classical songs out there, so it really depends on what type you prefer.
Maybe you will like Elgar's "Nimrod" from Enigma Variations ~ it's got a similar feel to Mascagni's piece.
My favourites have got to be anything by Chopin and Brahms, definitely happy.gif

You know who's piano skills I am deathly jealous of?

Lang Lang. Yeah, that's right. He never messes up in concert, anywhere. I am dead serious. And his concerts are always amazing... not to add a bit amusing because of his expressions and exaggerated motions. xD Yes, I have seen him in concert when he came to Chicago... but then again, he comes to Chicago like every once in a while, so yeah. He is very good.

I love Beethoven. I swear, Mozart and Haydn get so boring. It's predictable. Almost to the point where I want to bang my head on something. And Bach... well, I think I tolerate him much more than Haydn. There's just something about Haydn. Mozart is... okay, but still boring.

Chopin. Is amazing. LOL. But Liszt is killer to play. Talk about virtuoso... LOL. Let's see... what else? Schubert and Schumann are both pretty good.

Classical music is great music. More people should listen to it, because, honestly, most of the listeners are old people. -_____-''

Joshua Bell is pretty good. But he doesn't have what it takes to become a virtuoso. If you're looking for great talent of our generation, hands down it's Hilary Hahn. Un-freaking-believably amazing. She's this good at such a young age. I can't wait to see her in 10 or 20 years down the road.

But my fav. violinist of all time is definitely Perlman!!
"But when it ends and while it ends, something comes, after so much rage, persistence, obstinacy, extravagance; something entirely unexpected and touching in its mildness and goodness. With the motif passed through many vicissitudes, which takes leave and so doing becomes itself entirely leave-taking, a parting wave and call, with this D G G occurs a slight change, it experiences a small melodic expansion. After an introductory C, it puts a C sharp before the D. . .and this added C Sharp is the most moving, consolatory, pathetically reconciling thing in the world. It is like having one's hair or cheek stroked, lovingly, understandingly, like a deep and silent farewell look. . . . " (Mann: 55).

I actually attended one of Lang's Lang's concert when I went to Hong Kong. I must say, it was one of the most memorable and greatest experiences of my life. When he plays the piano, his passion certain shows on his face. I cannot wait until he comes in NY for a concert!

Oh yea, Chopin's nocturne's are absolutely wonderful! I'm also a big fan of Tchaichovsky.

I LOVE Chopin's Waltzes and Etudes. Does anyone know any composers that composed similar songs like Chopin?

the file expired, but isn't cavalleria rusticana an opera (that's been adapted by the awesome franco zeffirelli into film)?

anyways, i'm not much into the classical music, but my favorite pieces are chopin's etude in e major (agreed, his etudes are beautiful), faure's pavane, and as cliched as it sounds, rachmaninoff's piano concerto no.2...

i don't think people have to listen to it frequently or like it, but it's important that they acknowledge and appreciate it...

Check out Debussy.

^ I love Debussy. His songs are so dream like and surreal. Clair de Lune is definitely a must-listen and Reverie too.

Chopin- he's a classic. (His style is totally different from Debussy's.) I don't know of modern classical composers though.. Oh, except Yiruma!

Hillary Hahn & Itzak Perlman = <3 but I've always really loved Sarah Chang's playing, too. She's a child prodigy who really grew up and matured. Joshua Bell has a really sweet sound, and he's an awesome violinist and all, but I agree that among the topnotch players he's not the best musically.

Anyway, I really like the big classical symphonies from the romantic period. Brahms and Tchaikovsky usually float my boat.
Hmm, I like Shostakovich, too, and Prokofiev. Anyone else ever played Prokofiev's first violin concerto? I love the opening movement of that piece.
Hey, look! Finally a different signature after all these years!

Chopin is romantic while Debussy is impressionistic. Both are "classical"

I agree that they are totally different in style, expresssion, musical form, and technique. Regardless, both piano works are highly resolving. After all, opposites are complementary.

Sarah Chang was a child prodigy. She didn't live up to the hype though. blush.gif

joo, if you're a fan of Prokofiev's VC #1, you must hear this one played by Vengerov at all costs.

Jacqueline du Pre was an amazing cellist. You should hear her play "Kol Nidrei" by Max Bruch. Beautiful, passionate ... brilliant.
