Sung Shi Kyung leapfrogs a lot of strong challengers, jumping 13 spots from No. 14 to No. 1 with 거리에서 (On The Street). Just a month ago, Lee Seung Ki’s “제발” (Please) jumped a record 12 spots to No. 1. We are surprised that this record only lasted for a month, and Sung Shi Kyung did it one spot more.

DBSG’s “오-정반합” (O-Union) was the favorite to be the next No. 1 song, but lost out to Sung Shi Kyung mainly because of low internet chart scores. Its score is still rising, jumping from No. 5 to No. 2 this week. Let see if they can overtake Sung Shi Kyung next week.

Two other songs moved up 9 spots – MC Mong’s “아이스크림” (Ice-cream) and ERU’s “까만안경” (Black Glasses). These 2 songs are very popular in Korea now and are expected to move up further in the chart.

Four new songs this week, with two songs debuted into the top 10. Bi’s long awaited 4th album was released last month, and the title song “I am Coming” is our highest debutant this week at No. 8. Fans have been waiting 2 years for Bi’s new album and he certainly did not disappoint us.

Following right after Bi is Lee Seung Ki’s new song “원하고원망하죠” (Want and Resent), from his remake album. This song is a remade of an As One song. It replaced his 3 week No. 1 song ““제발” (Please), which was still No. 2 last week.

Debuting just under the top 10 is trot queen Jang Yoon Jung’s new song “이따,이따요” (Later, Later). Jang Yoon Jung has rekindled young people’s interest in trot music. She was our top female artist last year. Now she’s back with her 3rd album and it looks like another top 10 hit for her. This song will bring her even closer to pop fans because the melody is more pop friendly in my opinion.

The last debut song at No. 15 is from the “king of ballad” Shin Seung Hoon. He released his 10th album on October 10. The title song “Dream of My Life” entered our chart this week. The song is different from past Shin Seung Hoon songs with mid tempo melody and less “sadness”.

ARTIST OF THE WEEK - Nell



Our featured artist this week is the indie rock band Nell. The four-member band is highly recommended by the lengndary Seo Tai Ji. They have released 3 albums so far, and each album is a top 10 seller and produced a top 20 song. Like many k-rock bands, the title song Nell released on each album is listener friendly enough to attract mainstream audiences. BIOGRAPHY:

Nell is a band with an appealing power to music lovers with their unique sound and color accompanied with lyrical words. The band is made up of 4 members who were all born in 1980. Kim Jong-wan is the vocalist and guitarist of the band who writes all the music and lyrics for the band. Lee Jae-kyung plays the guitar, Lee Jung-hoon plays the bass guitar and Jung Jae-won plays the drums. First formed in 1999, the rock band re-named itself “Nell” after the title of a movie in which Jodi Foster starred.

Mainly performing in the clubs around the Shinchon area, Nell released two albums in the Indi music scene. The first one is “Reflection of Nell” released in January of 2001 and the other is “Speechless” released in September of the same year. Their hit numbers from the two albums are “Words That Shouldn’t Be Trusted,” “Already Said and Done,” “A Somewhat Sad Story” and “The Rain of Leaves.”

The turning point for Nell’s musical career was after the band participated in the rock festival designed by Seo Taiji, the 2002 ETPFEST and joined the Goesoo Indigene Label. The Goesoo Indigene Label was established by Seo Taiji in order to stir up a change in the local pop music scene dominated by a few genres of music. After preparing for more than a year with Goesoo Indigene, Nell released their major debut album “Let It Rain” in June of 2003. Recorded at the G.I. Studio specializing in rock music, the album was evaluated to display great sound along with beautiful lyricism that deliver a clear color of sorrow. Nell also performed in various live stages including “Nell’s Private Room”, a unplugged concert held in November of 2003. The band also participated in the “2004 Live Wire” in January, 2004 and accompanied Seo Taiji in the concert held in Vladivostok, Russia in May, 2004.

Maya searched for her own color through many experiments and trials and errors. Maya 3rd album 'Road to Myself'.

To find her own color, the producers for her 2.5 remake album contributed in making her 3rd album as well. To give a more rock sound to her album, drummer Matt Laugh and bassist Lance Morrison contributed by providing all the powerful sounds in the tracks. (These two people worked with Christina Aguilera, Alanis Morissette and Richard Marx). Engineer Tom Weir contributed to this album by doing the mixing. We will be able to hear a funky rhythm and modernized melody. Maya's title song called 'scream myself out loud' is a story about an ordinary person walking in their own road. The meaning of their album title [SS501 S.T 01 NOW] is 'S' for SS501, 'T' for their fan club Triple S and '1' for their first album. Through this album, they want to become one with their Triple S fan club. There are a total of 14 tracks including their debut title song 'Warning' which is presented with a new remix version. Unlike other boy bands, SS501's title song called 'Unlock' will present all five members individual image and color. Inside their smoothness they have strength and inside their strengths, they have a precise feel of themselves. Their goal was to create an album that was filled with completion rather than showing off their characteristics. 'Four Chance' is a song that brings out a funky tune mixed in with a strong hip-hop rhythm. SS501 made a remake song called 'Hana' that is a pop R&B song. 'Again' is a very charming song that brings out the member's wonderful harmony and the main point of this song is to express the sad feelings as if we're watching a drama story board. There are a lot of great tracks in this album including the song called 'Man' which is an upbeat dance song that leader Kim Hyun-Joong brainstormed ideas for. The song called 'radio star' was first introduced during SS501's tour concert stage when they were promoting their radio station's logo song. 'Bye bye' is another upbeat dance song that'll show SS501's great vocals and chorus. The song 'Sky' was performed during their Osaka concert in Japan where they received many cheers from their fans. You can try bugsmusic, but you also need to install a bugsmusic player. Most of these sites with sampling capabilities have their own music player, I am not sure whether active X is involved in all thrse sites.
