I got:

[-20-8i(sqrt6)]/3

So basically, you just simplify and if you come across an i^2, it equals -1.

^ sorry. I edited the post...so the answer's different..

This is what I did...
1)You multiply out the [(6+i(sqrt6))/3]^2....I hope you know how to do that
2)Then look at the second term..and you can see that you can cancel the 12 and 3
3)Now you can distribute the negative sign to 6+i(sqrt6)
4)Find the least common denominator, which is ___ and multiply that to the appropriate numerators.
5)Simplify

My answer might not be correct.

something i would have done at school ><"

i would have expanded the powers then simplify the other terms... but hay..why listen to me? meh...

I got

(-2 + 24i(sqroot 6) )/ 3

or

(-2/3) + 8i (sqroot 6)

My answer's the same as j i w o n's.
It's just that mine is simplified more...you can simplify the -60 and 9.

edit//: Are you sure you have the problem correct? Cause I don't think it's 0. blink.gif

^well the problem is actually
3x^2 - 12x + 14 = 0
solve for x
i used the quadratic formula andgot
x=(6+i squareroot 6) / 3
and
x=(6-i square root 6) / 3
then check one of the solutions by plugging x in

wait! i think i know why i got it wrong..i didn't put multiply it by 3 sleep.gif let me redo it
but i don't know if the i's will still cancel out

thanks for the help everyone

I don't know about you guys but I get

(124 / 3) + (16 / 3) * i * sqrt(6);
