Some of the schools that I applied to don't require a college essay but if i send one in in, does it affect me in any way? (positively or negatively?)

i would say if you think A ) that the essay is well-written, and B ) shows the college a side of you that doesn't appear anywhere else on the app (and you think it's important to show them), go for it.

no matter what, make sure there are NO ERRORS (grammar, syntax, typo, etc).

chances are that if the university doesn't require essays, they DON'T want to read them. don't bother unless it's required. chances are it'll end up hurting you.

unless it is in form of supplementary material, don't do it.
