your best bet would be finding a used cam or just wait until next week and wait in line at circuit city, best buy, compusa at 2am for the mad rush on black friday...

So I would go stores REAL early after thanksgiving.
Then yeah, you can probably get a camera for $100 or less.

I checked the Best Buy website and the Canon - PowerShot 5.0MP Digital Camera A530 is on sale for $150. I personally haven't used the PowerShot before but I have used Canon before. Canon is a reputable brand and they make professional cameras.
I think it's really worth it to spend a bit more on a dc because you do want something that last a few years. For example, the Canon Powershot SD series are quite worth it and they aren't that expensive either ($250-$300+), and they look quite nice too.

if you ever do change ur mind about the price, i suggest you get canon because they're cameras are really good. i myself, have a cannon. and also try to get a camera with big lens, because the cameras with little lens break more easily.

optical image stablizer's good if you have a lot of zoom.. but you want a compact one, so it doesn't quite matter...
megapixals.. you probably won't need more than 4 if your printing regular photos...
um.. Don't spend to much because in a few months, the price will drop... But I don't know what you can buy for only $100... I think you have to spend twice as much to get a decent one

most people prefer canon... I used to work at an electroics store and I asked the people what's the diff between cameras? he said not much, mostly brand name

stablizers good even on compacts. especially when everything/everyone is moving so fast that you cant take your time for a steady shot. IS can also do wonders when panning shots as well. i think it's a handy feature. it wont do miracles, but it's very nice to have.
also, for people that like to crop their shots because zoom was not enough, or want to recompose their shot by cropping, it would help to have a few more megapixels so you wont lose to much detail when printing on regular 4x6.

Honestly, three/four should be fine if you're only going to be printing regular sized photos.
I still have my 2 megapixel camera from four years ago and the picture quality is better than my cousin's 600$ sony dica from Japan that's like 7 megapixels. -___-
Higher megapixels dont mean better quality.

please do not PM me asking me to close threads, etc! i am no longer a mod! ^^ thanks!
