Hey everybody
I've been thinking about creating a serious website, not like a blog or one of those free sites with a million popups.
I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for good domain sites? I'm going to need a moderate amount of storage space and bandwidth allowance, at a reasonable price.
Also, I need recommendations for a good website maker - microsoft frontpage / creative suite type program, one that doesn't have too steep of a learning curve and is easy for newbs to use (I currently don't have any at all). One that has a discount for students is even better. Speaking of which if anyone knows of any good guides / books on doing this please let me know.
I know making a real website isn't that easy for someone with no real HTML or technical knowledge, but I'm a bright kid and not looking to make something extremely fancy, just a nice non-cluttered site to post info, photos (alot of photos), links, stories, etc.
Thanks!

Though you said you didn't like one of those free websites with many popups, I suggest you start with that in order to just test the functionality and look of it (though yes, you could it without the free sites as well). Also since they're free, if you have any regrets on your website, there's no price to pay ^^. Plus not all of them have zillions of popups; there are some that actually have no ads or popups (though rare).
You can look for free webhosting on sites such as this: http://www.freewebspace.net/ . I'm sure a simple google search can reveal more.
As to what's a good web builder? I only use notepad myself, but I hear that dreamweaver is really nice.
If you don't have much HTML experience, you can goto http://htmlgoodies.com to get some primers.
Good luck!

i use lunar for hosting services
you will have to choose your domain and make sure it's not taken though.
as for a web-builder, i'd go with dreamweaver/fireworks (or photoshop if you prefer). notepad is fine, but dreamweaver does make life easy. or you can use more lightweight apps like cute-html. i dont like frontpage much because of it's tendency to write redundant code, but it's easy to use as well.
if you've no experience with html, i suggest you buy a good book. start off with html/css, and work on javascript for some nice dhtml interaction in the future.
best thing is to start simple. think of an overall design of how you want it to look, how you will navigate the site, etc.
good luck with your site, and dont forget to post up a link!

if u're looking for a free space, try atspace.com ---it's ADLESS (No banners, no anything!) and basically the best free space provider that i've tried.
Microsoft frontpage is cool. it's not that complicated and you can do various things. Also try learning swishmax, it's an easier flash which you can use to beautify your site.
