Anyone find it easier to learn when they are in a huge lecture hall as opposed to a small class of maybe 100 students or less?

Personally I enjoy and learn far better in classes of larger sizes (700-1000) as opposed to some of the smaller classes I have.

Firstly, its easier to stay awake

and

Secondly, It actually feels different from highschool.

I really did not like the highschool setting, really boring and linear. So I prefer the larger classes and actually learn better. Any class that is similar to the classes in highschool is too much for me to handle and i often go off into a daze or day dream.

haha. same here!

But for language classes, I prefer really small classes, like 8-10 people.

yea i definitely like the bigger sized classes because the prof doesn't have any attendance policies which works well for me because sometimes i just don't feel like going to class. in small classes everyone notices when you're not there and it's so high school like.

a good question for me!!!!!!

i know that i can't learn well in a lecture hall with 300+ students.

i went to a small private school with the most student in one class is like... i think... 33. just a normal size high school class.

this was because i know that i need more room and a teacher's attention. i need the teacher to pick on me to keep me on my toes and all. and i know that if i go to a huge size room.. i would just sleep. which i do very well.

i like lectures with at least 1OO people, rather than small classes where everyone knows each other`s name. i work better independently, and in a lecture i do my own thing with taking notes and whatnot~~

It also depends on the prof's lecturing style. I have some that just well, lecture, even though there's only about 75 people in the class. And there are others who lecture to 200 people, and want participation.

Most of my lectures are ~75-300 people. I don't really care how many people there are though. Last year I liked the big lectures. But this year, I don't really like the prof's lecturing style, so I like my smaller lectures better.

Tutorials, however, I like smaller classes. By smaller, I mean 15-20 people. None of my tutorials are that small. But especially with attendance and participation marks, I feel that smaller classes let me contribute more without feeling stupid or falling asleep.

I like my classes to be around 200-600; anything more and it's too crowded and makes me not want to go to lectures. Anything less and it seems too personal lol.

At least 200-300 because this way, the prof can't pick on you. biggrin.gif

it depends on the course i'm taking.
but personally...i like small classes that are 20-40 people.
you can really get to know your classmates and meet new people.
and you get to know your prof better too.

im taking two lecture classes this semester that have two very different class sizes...one is in this huge lecture hall where of course there are a lot of students, and the other one is a small class, maybe about 30 people or so..

i enjoy both classes so i really think it depends on what class that is...i think i prefer the bigger crowd though. sometimes in a smaller class, there's always that one student who jst thinks he or she knows everything and it annoys everyone..in a bigger class, that annoying know-it-all can be easily drowned out laugh.gif

I'm in my first year and so far I enjoy small classes. Because I get to meet new people and get to know the professors a lot better. Which will help in the future.

When I'm in a big class, I can't learn much per say. Maybe it's because the teacher's lecturing style. It's way more noisy sometimes. I can fall asleep a lot easier, which is not good. I don't mind attendance, I mean I'm paying for it so I'm going to it.

About 50 or less people is what I would consider small. About 100 or less is medium. Right now I'm doing good in these small classes, A's and B's, while in my bigger classes I have D's, I might fail it too. T.T

I guess I just learn better in smaller classes than huge ones. But it's my first year so it could change.

For languages, I prefer smaller classes, and fortunately that's the way things are run here. Any other course, I don't really care how big or small.

My school's a private Cathotic women's college, so most of the classes I take tend to be about 13-20 students average in per class. My class sizes are pretty small. I prefer smaller classes compare to large classes. Your professor gets to know you more and you built a better relationship with your professor. smile.gif Well it has work out for me that way.

I go to a private Catholic school so most of my classes are 25-40 people which I don't like because it reminds me of high school. I like bigger classes (although our "big" classes don't exceed more than 200 people) so they don't take attendance. I actually go to classes where they don't take attendance because I don't feel pressured that the professor will look at me and stuff. If I miss a class that's small I'll feel like I missed loads because usually small classes give you tons of assignments (my larger classes only give reading) and it just gives me an anxiety attack. If I miss a large class, I won't feel too bad because I can always catch up within a day.

As long as I am able to find a seat, then I am fine. Preferably, I like smaller classes.

I prefer smaller classes.

I had a small Calculus I - III class. I had A-'s, B's and C's on exams but he gave me an A for Calc I - III. Mostly because the instructor knew I was trying my best. I'd show him my work, go to his office and ask questions, show him what I was doing.

He'd have a thing where we go into this one room an hour early before class. And we'd go through a lot of the problems.

though the more people there are, the better the chance of there being more cute girls smile.gif
