Does anyone here plan on majoring in something like PR, or majoring in a program that can help you get a PR job? i just wanted to know what courses i should take and whether its a good job to get into.

from what i've gathered, it's all about networking.
you can major in something like communications, because the transition into the PR field is a lot more natural when you're a communications major. at my college, don't know about urs, but communications majors are offered some classes in PR, from what i've gathereed writing skills are emphasized as much as speaking skills.
it also helps to be social, and if i were you, whatever major you choose, choose a major that gives you a lot of open ended opportunities to purse the PR field, which means get into the networking circle now!
i just know that in the beginning the PR biz pays pennies for salaries, but it's high paced and it can get your adrenaline rushing because of all the celebs you see (if that's what you're going for).
there's also different fields of PR, you should look into that. you don't have to work in the entertainment industry, if you want you can work for the gvt, non profits, and businesses.
it's an open ended field really.
good luck.

If public relations isn't offered as a major in your college, then I would recommend journalism as your major, because in p.r. you're going to have to work with the media and convince them to print your story in the news or talk about your issue or event during the news broadcast on tv. In p.r. you'll be writing press releases, which is similiar to a basic article you would write for journalism. I go to Michigan State and I'm a journalism major with a specialization in public relations (meaning in addition to jrn classes, I also take an Intro to P.R. class, a stats class (cuz p.r. involves research, surveys, meaning you'll have to work with numbers), a p.r. techniques and p.r. campaigns class).
I've taken the intro class so far, and p.r. sounds really interesting. it's such a broad field, you'll be sure to find something that interests you.
If you're not in college already, then def check out Michigan State University (www.msu.edu), we have an awesome journalism school, and you can add on the public relations specialization.
