right now i'm just a freshman who's in a rut. i want to study abroad and at the same time do a double major. but i don't think that can happen because i still have to fulfill my school's required core classes.

anyone in the same boat? i just don't know what to do. i really want to study abroad and do a double major at the same time.

i assume you mean study abroad for a semester? you can compromise by doing a winter/summer break program or do summer school to fulfill your cores. or you can push back your graduation. these are all ways you can fit it in, but if none of these works just remember you win some and you lose some.

this is off topic somewhat, but do you really need a double major? i think they're stupid lol. ee/ce and fin/accy is ok but in general i think its a waste of time

Ok, well I was in that boat...still technicaly am since I haven't changed my major. I was going to double major in international business/marketing (required at my school dry.gif) and I wanted to study abroad in Japan for a semester. I'm not dropping that and changing my major to Japanese (most likely anyway, not totally sure yet) because I was worried about the double major...I personally have no faith in myself and I don't think I can do it =/
Well I guess this was no help mellow.gif

err usually most schools have it so study abroads do fulfill requirements and give you credits...are you sure yours doesn't?

the japanese study abroad program doesn't fulfill any core requirements only for east asian studies and japanese majors. but i'm not majoring in either of those.

^ why don't you just wait a couple years, save some money, get your core stuff out of the way, then do a study abroad? That's what I'm planning to do. Plus, you're only a freshman, and most study abroad programs are meant for sophomores or juniors anyway.

^ My study abroad program is for juniors and seniors only...
I guess it varies depending on where you're from.
But I agree with what akira53 said. Wait a few years, finished all of your required classes then study abroad.
I plan on studying abroad my 4th year of college. biggrin.gif

why not do both? isnt it a matter of time/money than requirements? i regret not studying abroad...and once you start working, it's nearly impossible to consider spending more than 2 weeks anywhere. do it now while you have the opportunity.

i'm pretty much in the same boat... i'm double majoring in film and humanities, and minoring in design... i need to take like a million credits each semester and go to school in spring so i can graduate in four years... but hey, i'm still doing a study abroad! in fact, i HAVE done a study abroad last year, and i'm doing it again this year if everything goes right... except that the study abroad programs i'm taking offer courses that count towards my major... maybe you can do like an internship abroad? ask your advisor how you can earn credits by studying abroad, the advisors in my school are pretty accommodating in this type of situations...

I plan to double major in Studio Arts: Graphic Design & Business Admin. I plan to study abroad in either Japan or Korea. I'm still debating. I'm a soph. in undergrad program...probably takes 5 years for me to finish. Oh well! tongue.gif At first, I really wanted to finish school in time (summer 2009)...but I realized it doesn't matter, as long as I finished. And most importantly, I believe it is what I get out of the learning experience.
sorry, I'm getting off topic here, but I didn't know where else to post this.

>>>To anyone in here...I'm just wondering how much money I should bring to Japan? I mean I've visited Japan a few times, but it is different from living there. Anyone have any idea?
I am still debating between Korea & Japan. I was thinking about studying in S. Korea at first...but I've heard Korean-Americans staying in korea are prejudice against non-Koreans...? is this true?
**friendly advices and tips will be greatly appreciated! smile.gif thanks!!!

How much money you should bring depends on alot of factors...Where you're living, what's already being payed for you by your program (housing, meals?), where do you live in relation to your school, how much shopping / eating out you think you'll be doing..

Don't base your decision to not study abroad in S. Korea based on a few idiots studying there. Most likely your time won't be spent hanging out with those people anyways, stick to hanging out with the natives instead. Same for if you go and live in Japan, you can always hang out with your fellow countrymen back in your home country so why do it in a foreign country.
