it's the latest work by Watase Yuu. the story is about what happened to the Genbu witch/girl BEFORE Miaka. you will see familiar characters who once appeared in fushigi yuugi as spirits ( ) or old people.

I love this manga to bits.
As for the scanlations to answer your question moonie_heejunnie, there are only 9 chapters that have been scanlated by Shoujomagic but they dropped it due to licensing. Luckily though, you could still find their scanlations on irc. There are also translations and raws for chapters up to 16 floating around the internet.
I say be a supporter and buy the volumes instead! Though, only the first two volumes have been translated by Viz thus far and about 5 volumes in japanese. XD

I don't think it's better than the Miaka version though
Because it's like, watase is making it so sexual, and it's just the first volume.
I don't know, i just don't like it so much when they get naked in the first few pages. x.x

That may be true but you could tell how Watase has matured a lot in her writing style since fushigi yuugi the original. There's less of that sappyness that I felt was in the original. The characters are much more defined and not to mention, it's drawn with a bit more care and detail. But I know how you feel, the whole "what the heck? They're in bed already?" but hale, that's fanservice for you

My friend introduced me to the prequel, even though I have not yet read the original FY series.. I finished reading the scans and then I found out on the internet (while searching for more) that she dies in the end... I was so depressed. My friend apologized... *sigh*
