Are we supposed to discuss the comparison?
Someone's bound to be offended or offend sooner or later in this thread.

XD... that is my thought on this. I like Korean music more than English music. It just sounds way better.

that's why i switched over to korean music.
but generally, music was better in the old days whether it's korean or american.

But I'll be honest, I prefer korean music because the lyrics seems to be more...meaningful. I'm talking SG songs, stuff like that.
People tend to think that Korean music is heavily influenced by western music but I disagree with this strongly. Korean music and western music do not sound similar at all to me.
It's just that some people think plagiarism counts as influence. Plagiarism is plagiarism and it doesn't qualify as influence. It also happens EVERYWHERE, not just in Korea.

American Music.
Although the more "popular" American music seems to have a lot of violence, sex, gang-related stuff in their songs, a lot of it also has really cute, creative lyrics to describe love/relationships/other situations that Korean music still has miles to catch up to.
I know Korean music wins in the whole 'depth' part and dramatic lyrics part, but if you look at artists like Michael Buble, Jack Johnson, Nickelback, etc. etc. I find their lyrics/music far more pleasant to listen to vs. Korean music's drama-like contexts. Don't get me wrong, a lot of KPOP music has meaning and all, it's just that it seems like those dramatic kinds of songs/lyrics are all they seem to have, besides pop music which, for some reason, people seem to exclude when it comes to the "good" part of Korean music.
And if you really look at it, depth is stronger in words that describe little feelings that are real and what everybody can relate to, which a lot of American music has.
Also, Korean music -- the majority is about love or boy/girl relationships and sometimes mothers when they wanna be touching...but American music , even if a lot of their music is also about boy-girl/love/sex, it still has a lot of songs that connect to other things around the world and life, which I really like.
I love Korean music and all, but if I had to choose just one of the two to listen to for the rest of my life, I'd pick American. It just has more range for me.
In my opinion, Korean music still has a long way to go

killing... drugs... no fun.
Korean music... love.. friends... relationships. and cuteness.
i perferably listen to korean music over american music.
the only thing that bugs me about american music is the nonsense of drugs and all....
and especially in the mvs.. all those almost naked girls...
that's not something that i want to see everyday in a music video.
and korean music does have better mvs. i think.

what I like about Kmusic (in general) is, like itrayya said, the music videos of such artists have much more concept. lately, American mvs dont even have anything to do w/the song. I love watching mvs where I can simply enjoying the song as well as take in its meaning.
anyway, I'm very much into Kpop nowadays but I'm still enjoying country music (weird, huh? but that's my American music genre!)

keep your head UP!

Even though I don't know what the lyrics are saying in korean music, but i'm more into the r&b ish beats of korean music more than American. So i usually listen to Korean music and only American for the acoustic, rock clean songs
And also like people mentioned, the MVs are ALOT more inspirational and better. It's not just the artist's face on the screen or something about drugs getting high.

Thank u!
anyways, I like both
but I listen to american music more because it's what I grew up on and it's the reason I listen to k-pop
both have ups and downs, it's just that k-pop is toooo similar that it's annoying.

agreed but I will post my opinions anyway
Korean Music - I listen to it way more than American music. It just appeals to me more. Songs are cuter and have different lyrics. However, a lot of Korean songs use American beats.
American Music - Not like it used to be. Every singers' style changes a lot and and there aren't any good recent songs. I prefer to listen to American music about 2-4 years ago.
Of course .. those are just my opinions.

they're both good in their own ways, but currently, I perfer Korean music more, since my years of AMerican music obsessed is over.

exactly that is off topic
so why'd u say it??
anywho
yeh, I love american music but these days there are only few artists I can tolerate
and everything is so repititive, k-pop aint helpin that much
but I do love Se7en and Bi's music
IMO they don't knock off r&b, but they really appreciate it
which makes me happy cuz they like black people music

All I listen to now is korean or japanese sung by korean
Why? because my music taste is different from mainstream American music (though I love Kelly Clarkson's music).
Generally, I listen to more poppier music.... which isn't really "in" in the US... It's just a matter of taste
But I believe that a lot of American singers are very talented (Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilara, Mariah Carey) ... it's weird that my favourite Americans singers are females, but all I listen to now are guys...
You're going to get very biased results posting this in the Korean music section of a Korean kpop forum.

Exactly. I don't know how to explain it to people, but there is a very FINE line between being musically influenced and having influenced songs. Bi and Se7en are very good example of people who truly appreciate RnB, or as LucasBunny said it "black people's music" BUT they don't knock off music. They turn it into something different but in the same genre, something Korean people can relate to more.
This is what I mean when I say that I strongly believe that kpop is not influenced by western music. Because honestly they don't sound very much alike. Could you imagine some of the american artists singing to the beats of Korean songs? I didn't think so.
And I emphasize again that plagiarism is NOT influence. It's just flat out plagiarism, something Korea is guilty for, as well as a lot of other countries (America included).
