So for those of you who haven't heard the story already, here it is in short:

QUOTE
Last Friday Clay Aiken co-hosted Live! With Regis and Kelly with Kelly Ripa. They had kind of a playful banter in the beginning that turned kind of awkward when the two began exchanging insults (jokingly) back and forth.

Anyways, during the interview with the Dancing with the Stars winner, Clay was having a hard time getting a word in with Kelly continuously talking... so he reached over and put his hand over her mouth. To which Kelly responded by saying "No.. no, no... that's a big no, no," and then "I don't know where those hands have been."

Yesterday morning on The View, Rosie O'Donnell commented on the Clay/Kelly thing and said that from her perspective (as a gay woman)... she took Kelly's response as a homophobic remark (considering that Clay's sexual orientation is not clear).

Kelly said it had more to do with germophobia, since she has kids.

People article

What do you guys think about all of this?

Although, I can kind of see where Rosie O'Donnell is coming from -- I don't think Kelly Ripa was being homophobic.

But what really bothered me, was the fact that Rosie O'Donnell kind of took an innocuous action and labeled it as being a homphobic remark or gesture JUST because Clay Aiken's sexual orientation isn't clear and she, herself, is gay.

O'Donnell also exclaimed that Kelly Ripa would not have done that to a straight man, or a cute man...

I think she has no right to make that assertion because there's just NO WAY of knowing the validity of that statement. I mean, how does she know what Kelly Ripa would do?

Anyways, I'd like to hear your opinion.

i guess only kelly ripa would know what she was thinking when she made her remark.

personally, i wouldn't like someone else touching my mouth either. i mean, hands are the dirtiest part of the human body. and kelly does strike me as a slightly obsessive compulsive type (germophobe). i think rosie was jumping to conclusions way too fast.

darn! i miss that show!!

but... it woulda been nice is kelly let clay speak.
but.... that could be seen not so nice.

kelly shouldn't have said that she doesn't know where those hands has been.
even though that is what she thought and is true, she doesn't know where they've been..
she shouldn't have said that and maybe it made clay look bad.

uh..

Eeeeh, it could have been homophobic or it couldn't have been. I don't think people should start throwing out accusations though.

I think your right... I think it's more of a germaphobic thing than homosexual. wait.. Clay isn't gay is he? (not that it matters much but her remark assumed he was gay) and what does being gay have to do with being dirty? Rosie was off the mark in this one.

who cares about what rosie o'donnell thinks. her own show's probably not getting enough ratings she need to milk attention off somebody else.

No it wasnt homophobic not at all I think Rosie is overreacting

I was just about to make a topic about this

If anyone put there hand on my mouth after shaking hands with everyone in the audience then I would have acted the way she did

But if Clay Aiken is gay, Rosie let the cat out of the bag.

Homophobic? not at all

exaggerated? I definitely think so

Why did Kelly take it so out of proportion? He just put his hand over her face, it's not like he shoved it in her mouth. And how she tried to defend her distress by saying it was because it's flu season? Bull's wax! Clay was just having fun on the show. he's a laid back person and probably didn't even think much from what he did.

Rosie O'Donnell broght up a topic i didn't even think came into the whole argument...lol

I think it's out of the line for Rosie to just automatically assume Clay's homosexual, when he didn't say anything. I mean...who knows, maybe he is, mybe he isn't, but until he says something, why act like you know?

And with Ripa...I definately don't think she's homophobic. I'm sorry, but if someone clapped his/her hand on my mouth, I'd be like "pinkberry, get your dirty hands off my mouth." Kelly's just a complete joker and she's silly, that's just her personality.
Please don't forget me. { I'm going away. }

Thank you.

I don't think Kelly was out of line, I think people are blowing this way out of proportion.

Rosie did overreact to an issue where it really doesnt concern her. although, she did make a good point if Aiken was the hot-looking type Kelly would've reacted in a diff way. I watch Kelly's show whenever I can. I love the lady's bubbly personality; and I enjoy it when she "flirts" a bit with their [handomse male] guests. I'm pretty sure if it was a George Clooney or a Brad Pitt or even an Usher who did that, Kelly would've spurted a different line, something like: "You can keep your hands there, baby!"

now those are just my assumptions. sweatingbullets.gif

I think Kelly would have been more flirtatious with Clay IF they hadn't got off on the wrong foot in the beginning when they do their little "chat" for the first few minutes of the show. It was a little more than obvious that Clay was not too happy with Kelly's Halloween costume of him. And Clay was dogging on Kelly pretty badly too. While I was watching... I kept thinking "He's pushing it...".

i hate it when people touch my mouth. whether they are gay or not.

germs ARE a big deal these dayss...i mean, it's flu season. i would never have thought that she said no because she thought he was gayy...my automatic assumption would be "oh, she must not want to get sick or somethingg..."

didn't they make a spoof of it on the AMA awards.. tori spelling placed her hand on clay's mouth lol

i don't think it was right for clay to do that either.. but i don't think he meant to be rude.. i mean he was a camp counsellor for special ed.. i guess he just not as germaphobic as kelly.. plus there are pics of kelly doing the same to regis...

i didn't see the segment but i hear just the way kelly looked at the camera and her tone of voice implied she didn't say it to be nice..
Alice asked the Cheshire Cat `Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?'
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don't much care where--" said Alice.
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go,' said the Cat.

ah, see I'm assuming... I didnt see the show so I didnt know. Rosie really made a biggie out of this. if I were Clay, I'd be more pissed at Rosie because she's basically assuming he's gay (whether he is or not) and clearly disclosing it to the public which she doesnt have the right to.

actually i didn't think rosie made a big deal

the way rosie said it... it was just a passing opinion and i thought it was justified

it became a big issue when kelly called up to defend herself
she has every right to but in a sense it made matters worse and it made things a BIGGER issue

i agree with rosie's viewpoint... that we pity clay.. he didn't mean it in a bad way and just everyone made such a big deal over it

another thing is that clay hasn't declared his sexual orientation
no one should have to
but everyone's asking and he's dodging the questions
so really... clay should just come out and make it clear which team he's playing for

ppl shouldn't just assume he's gay just because he may have tendencies... i know a few stright guys with strong feminine characteristics

Did Clay even clear up Rosie's comment or did he just let it slide? Coz he was on the AMAs with Tori Spelling and reenacted that whole thing with Ripa and did he mention anything?

I think Rosie definitely overreacted; she's too sensitive. If she automatically assumed that Ripa meant "getting sick" as "becoming gay" then maybe that speaks for herself. Yes, I know she's a lesbian but still, how can she automatically jump to that conclusion?

now i know that kelly has been talking bad about clay and making this into a huge deal. i think she's REALLY immature and unprofessional. Simon Cowell has done the same thing to Kelly as Clay has done but she said nothing. Also SHE has put her hand over Regises mouth I dunno how many times. Why is she freaking out and being so mean to clay? He only did that because she was rude to him to begin with. Maybe it IS a gay thing after all or else why the hostillity?
