I have a small chip on my car. The touch up color seems off from the base, but I got it from the dealer. What's weird was that when I was about to restart repainting the other day, I decided to clear coat it just to see how shiny it would be, and the color ended up matching perfectly? Maybe it was just the lighting messing with me...anyways that was some background.

QUESTION: Should I try to have the chipped area filled up to the level of the base paint? My touch up is slightly below the base, but it's done so well, I don't want to risk another coat. You experts think with the clear coat covering it...it'll be even?

^the top is what I have. I'm thinking the clear coat applied will make it even? The bottom one with clear coat might make it bumpy?

Thanks to whoever helps.

leave it. if it looks good from far away, it's best to leave it before you make it worse. as long as it covers enough so that rust does not form.. you can clearcoat it more like the person above and sand out the edges to make it even.

btw, thanks for the tip.. i made a foot long scratch with my brick garage and my friend helped me repaint the surface using a paint spray.. i haven't got a chance to do clearcoat yet but the color seems way off lol.. i was wondering why it did that.. i believe that light/reflection is fooling around with us..

oh yea if you plan on sanding it, wet sand it.. not dry use 1000 grit
