hip hop and rap ARE TOTALLY different things. Hip hop was a movement and a lifestyle... while rap is just about money cars and living the big dream. when rappers now a days say hiphop is dead, yeah your dam right hip hop died. You know why? cause you killed it lols. its a fact all the rappers that say hiphop is dead are the ones who killed it. The only ones still repping that good old hip hop that i can think of right now is... nas, jay z, talib kweli, common, and many underground artists.
butt back to the subject.... comparison to american and asian rap... america still holds it down.

Ok some one is confusing Hip-Hop with main stream rap which is quite sad, you see Hip-Hop is a culture consisting of 4 elements Emceeing, Writing(graffiti), Turntablism, and B-boying. I know you think Hip-Hop culture is all about smoking tree's,sagging pants, busting guns, and flipping products but the truth may hurt its not. Hip-Hop culture originated as a way inner city youth could express them selves and have fun(yes hip-hop emceeing was originally club music). This Club Emceeing eventually evolved to many styles being created ie your west coast G-funk, Political Rap etc. Also i know many people are dissing the main stream and the rappers/emcee's who produce the music but remeber the record label has a lot of influence on the artist look at jins album the rest is history....
Now upon saying lyrical content in main stream rap isnt life, the sad fact it is life, deal with it. Have you ever lived in a slum or even stepped foot into one, hell have you even been to school and chilled with people from the "ghetto"? The answer is most likely no, because if you have you would know about the the type of mentality people carry there the sad fact is most people living there do posses the bitches and hoe im all about mines mental.

Actually I do know the difference. I wasn't implying that that's all American Hip Hop is about. It's just that these days, a lot of the mainstream stuff is so horrible, it's not even worth discussing. Mind you, I said underground stuff is a whole different story.
Second, don't act like you know me. I actually grew up in Santa Ana [Wab Town USA] and attended Santa Ana High School, one of the most dangerous in Cali for shootings. Yes I have been at the scene of a shooting. Yes I have seen a lot. Yes, I grew up poor and "ghetto". Just because I'm asian doesn't mean I can't fit in that category, plus I'm only half. On another note- this a shouldn't even be what Hip Hop is about. If the industry is supposed to be growing, so are we as people. Find better sh*t to rap about and have an ounce of intelligence, please.
Sticking to the topic, I still stand by what I said. Korean hip hop and American hip hop are not even comparable. They are totally different and IMO Korean hip hop sounds better. It's just MY opinion though. Don't have a cow and think you have to oppose it and tell me why american rap is better. I've stated my opinion, just leave it at that.

Its always about girls and expensive cars with deep dish chrome rims, or being a slut or ho, or having a lot of money then getting it stolen then getting your whole gang to shoot em in your PV.
I hate it.
But its great because for people who like rap, american rap pretty much pwns anything.
but I prefer Asian rap, moreso about life and love, and more meaningful.
American rap is about the same thing over and over. People getting shot, wife getting stolen, etc.

In terms of style, rythym, lines, AND EVERYTHING!!! Although most of the rappers of America do not have good looks, but their rappings are so cool.
Btw, I really agree that Edison Chen should stop rapping. He can't rap and he can't sing.

Personally, I don't like rap at all.. but in Asian songs with little rap parts I like it.
Asian rap actually has meaning although it may make no grammatical sense at all.
It's more enjoyable in my opinion.

American rap is not solely limited to those subjects. Check out late 80s to 90s rap music and you'll get what I mean. It runs a whole lot deeper than that. And the artists that do talk about girls/money have done it with skill, i.e. Raekwon, AZ, Ghostface.

I see them as two different categories, because the subject is different for the two kinds, american rap is sex drugs, etc, and asian rap is about..love? and other stuff? LOL sometimes if asian rap is in english i really dont understand what they're saying.
American rap in OUR generation (since i dont listen to oldies, or songs from the 80's or 90's.) is just sex, drugs, money, girls, waking up at motel 6 in the morning, blahblahblah. its so overdone and boring, not to mention degrading, hahah. except EMINEM, he sings about all that stuff too, but some of his songs are really meaningful because they're about like his life? haha. i used to LOVEEEE EMINEM, and rap, but after a while, all that sex, drugs, and money got old. I dont know about all the underground rap people are talking about though, i dont really listen to ANY american music anymore, except occasionally when i run across a song i like that's playing in a store, haa.
Asian rap i prefer, because even though its not the original thing and sounds stupid or doesnt make sense sometimes, its doesnt have as much cussing and has more meaning (when its in korean, japanese, or english LOL), and do they really talk about sex drugs and money? O.o i dont remember, haha but i dont think so, I think asian rap is cute. except for some, when they try TOO hard to be like american rappers. I like Big Bang, :X does their rap count? (: but big bang may count as bands who "try too hard" to some people. O.o

Not all music started in America. Reggae is from Jamaica. Bossa Nova/Samba is from Brazil (American jazz artists play Antonio Carlos Jobim's songs all the time). Punk originated in England and Australia. And in terms of art music, classical music came from Europe (Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, etc.) Please don't talk in absolute terms.
What you both are saying is simply a cop out. Black people never gave up so easily in creating new music genres and sub-genres. Look at just jazz and it's sub-genres: ragtime, bebop, modal, cool, free, jazz/rock fusion, etc. All the great innovators in jazz were black--Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, etc. They never gave up. Don't say it's already been done and nothing more can be created. Maybe South Korean artists are just not trying hard enough to be innovative.

the lyrics are rubbish and mostly with explicit words..
i really pity those little kids who loves to rap.. they must be listening to craps. I really think listening to rap will make you stupid, with themes like sex, drugs, money.. and lyrics like.... this is why im hot!! and im like wtf shut up we dont care.
asian rap- no comment since i dont understand what theyre saying except when they rap in english
i admit im a little biased but heck i dont like rap at all except eminem's songs.

but i believe american rap andhip hop is better because all asian hip hop and rap is nothing but copy cats. the whole style now is nothing but american hip hop from the 90's. and for the pppl who says that like asian rap because it don't talk about sex. give it a few years and i bet they are going to be rapping about sexing b*tches and slapping ho*s on a saturday night,
