what should i do? i dont see the point of being in college. its just a waste of time. i dont know what i want. i posted up at Yahoo!Answers to get some help too... cuz im really clueless
Please help me choose a major that's right for me.?
So I'm struggled on deciding to be in these 3 fields: business, fashion designing, and medical. Truthfully, I do not like medical at all. But it is the only field that makes a lot of money, because it is always needed. I know people always say 'go for what u love because u dont want to work a miserable job for the rest of ur life.' However, money is so essential to me. Our family's always been poor, and I just want to change the way we live for once.. and just want to have a taste of what it's like to spend money without having to worry too much...
The other fields: business & fashion.. although I love fashion a lot... but these too fields are very competitive and I'm afraid I'm not going to make it through and never success...
So please help me...

Like I am business minded. I have been my whole life.
But as the motto goes, anyone can do business
So I am doing Chemical engineering
And later down the road, I am going to incorporate business into my engineering field.
Trust me, any degree you pursue, I am pretty sure you will end up somewhere else.
Not saying this is the case for everyone
I know as a ChemE I will go somewhere related, but when I see other students with degrees in English, history, and other mics degrees, they usually go anywhere I cant imagine.
But nothing is set in stone, the true purpose of college is to broaden your perspective, and increase your opportunities in life. College school work proves that youre a hard worker in ways, which is the whole purpose of college education is. It helps mold you into a more educated individual.
The choice is yours, but youre not wasting your time. Youre slowly eliminating the things you dont like, narrowing your choices to the things you might enjoy.

medical science is really hard to get into. TOP OF YOUR CLASS!!!!!!!! meaning if there is 100000000 people in your class, you have to be NUMBER 1!!!!!!!
fashion designing is an easy job, easy to draw designs and make them if you want - big money if you do it yourself like wedding dress.
business, what kind of business are you want?
if i were you, fashion designing is good enough.

Couldn't you somehow combine fashion and business together? Maybe fashion marketing? Or be a fashion design major and minor in business.
Or why don't you just take a semester or year off, make some money, and then go back to school.
I'm taking a taxi to Kentucky where they don't even know all about me. I just need to feel s a f e.
I've got a thousand sweaters, and shoes, and paintings to hide the skeletons in my way.
But he said, "Slow down, slow down. Think it over, we've all got wretched closets, but silly girl pride kills more than Aids lately."
I said, "Come on, I thought it over. I don't wanna die here. I have no desire to get m♥rried."
Every night I pray for you, don't believe in heaven or that it could be a happy place.

if you say fashion design is easy ONE MORE TIME......... i`m going to whack you senseless. = _=;;
obviously you don`t know anything about it.
sorry i`m in a snappy mood i have 7 projects and 2 finals due next week - ________-;;
actually i`m a fashion and graphic design major.
fashion is hard on its own ( as far as finding a job) but if you team it up with another major emphasis, it can be quite general and helpful.

if you're thinking of getting a degree for the hell of it just go into business. i'd have to say that business is one of the easiest things to study. there are other jobs out there other than becoming a doctor that offer a great salary. college is more of an opportunity for you to broaden your horizons. just because you major in business administration it doesn't mean that you can't pursue something in the other direction. on average people change their careers 7 times in their lifetime.
so yea my advice is that if you're going to randomly get a degree at least choose one that's easy. you will not survive trying to get into medical school with the mentality that you have. you have to be really focused and determined to even have a chance at getting into medical school.

Your thinking is flawed and here is why.
A.) you say you don't want to do business or fashion because it is too competitive. What makes you think medical is not competitive? If anything, it is one of the most competitive fields out there, or else everyone would be a doctor easily. So that holds true for all of those three major.
B.) There are other jobs outside of medicine that makes a lot of money. Accountants, retirement fund managers, and top Mba people make six figure salary too, for less educational time commitment. And the list goes on and on. 100K jobs, there might not be a lot of them, but for sure, doctors are the not the only ones who make six figure salaries. So the choice isn't between doctor = rich, but miserable vs everything else = poor and happy, the real choice is between doctor = rich, but miserable vs non medical = poor, but happy vs non medical = rich and happy. You have many more options than you know. College is the time to explore.
C.) the reason why people tell u to pick something u like is because u need a desire and talent to learn the stuff. If you have 0% talent in the field, 0% desire to learn the stuff, you will fail in the medical field. Simply put, you would waste your time since you probably won't get into medical school anyway. So why waste your time at something. It is like saying, well I want to be a basketball star, if you have no talent in basketball and no desire to practice for hours, why bother, nobody would even take you in the NBA. Look at models, if you are ugly, who would take you as a model. Same goes with any profession, especially medical. You have no desire to learn science and more importantly, pick up any clinical skills, then why bother?
Gurantee failure = when you have no talent in a field and no desire to get better. It is not how everyone else does. It relates to how you do and not so much how everyone does. So competition is not the thing you should be scared about, it only matters if you have no talent in the field. If you are the top 1% of your field (aka if you have 100% talent and 100% desire and 100% luck), then there is no real competition at all.
SO GIVE YOURSELF A CHANCE TO SUCCEED IN LIFE BY PICKING SOMETHING YOU ARE GOOD AT, WHICH USUALLY RELATES TO SOMETHING YOU ENJOY.

Anyway, I can relate to you except I don't have any majors in mind. I have no idea what I'm going to do. I'm just taking it slowly.

All 3 fields that you mention are competitive. I don't know a single good paying job that isn't.
Since you say that money is so important to you and you family, then you shouldn't be picking a major that you have no interest in. I don't know if you're getting scholarships and grants or not, but if your family's paying for college, then you really need to talk to your counselor and tell him that biology's not your thing. You don't want to be wasting your time and money doing something you've never liked.

i think you should rethink about what you're more interested in first, dig deep into it, and just try your best hoping for the best. if you can't reach your main goal, hell at least you'll reach something closer to it the more you try :/

Some college classes has specific counseling courses that overviews you on how to research, explore, and test on careers or majors that you might be interested in. I took 1.5 units of it and it lead me to having a specific plan. They give it out one of those Myer-Briggs personal test booklets.
If you stick to something you enjoy best and work hard enough, you will get somewhere. Just keep a saftey net underneath your destination to survive a long the way.

what are your hobbies? maybe u can find a field related to one of your hobbies. that, or.. are u good at anything? math (accounting)? art (fashion, photography)? it's just a few ideas.
*also, you are in college right now arent you? are you taking out loans to pay for college? if you are, maybe you can have a year off to just work or travel, so you have time for yourself and you can think it through. if you are on scholarship, just keep at it, take the general education courses all undergrads need in the first 2 years till u can find out what you want to do. i dont think your councelor can force you to declare a major, plus.. you can always change it, so dont feel pressured.

I say stick with Fashion Designing but only if you're truly passionate about it. If it's what you really really REALLY love to do, then there's no way you can be bad at it. I recently chose to be an English Honours major over my initial plan to get into Pharmacy, because I love literature too much to spend my time studying medicinal effects on the human body. And I don't regret it whatsoever. If you're good at it, you'll fidn that you're not wasting your time at all!
