just curious if anyone have homesick?
does that make you hate college more?
does it make you less motivated in studying/making friends/etc because you always think of home?

i was REALLY homesick when i first got to college. to the point where i was crying numerous times a day. and i just felt really depressed. but i think it was also the newness of getting a roommate, having all this work piled on you, new people, new place, etc etc. i don't i hated college more because i was homesick, probably saw it in a new way. no one ever told me that college was going to be this hard and difficult to adjust to. and it didn't not motivate me to work less. i think i had my moments where i could have studied more and done better, but i was lazy, haha. but work kept me occupied, and i wasn't sitting around thinking about how i missed home and such. that's the worst. but i've gotten somewhat past the homesickness. now it's just the stress of schoolwork and getting good grades. sigh.

actually for me..I wasn't depressed when I left home O_O..I mean I cried when my parents left and stuff..but after that I guess it was cause of freshman orientation where we had so much to do and stuff that you can't even be depressed or homesick..I'm a bit homesick but I'm pretty busy so I usually don't think much about it and try to enjoy college life as a freshman =)..lol

Tell me about it. I'm sick of the hectic city life I guess. Plus with housemates problems, getting good grades, loads of assignments sometimes just reminds you how good is it to be at home.lolz.

Well, it's just my 2nd semester, and I'm feeling all that. I hope I'll just stay strong for another 2 1/2 years.

i actually was never homesick. maybe cos i'm not THAT far away from home, cos it'a just a five hour flight home & there isn't a time difference? but yeah, no homesickness for me. but my friend had homesickness & she got through it by talking to her family & friends on webcam everyday~

I only felt homesick in the beginning of the year [my freshman year which is this year >___<] when it was the weekends and I had nothing to do... Because then I hadn't had many friends and so I was usually cooped up in the dorm on the computer with lots of angsty thoughts. Like home. After some conversations on the phone with my mum I'd end up in tears since I missed her. But these days I'm too busy with school to think about home... But I'm excited to go home next week. I had a lot of fun when I went home last week for thanksgiving break... Plus I like the 1.5 hour flights - they make me feel independent laugh.gif

I thought I would get homesick like crazy, because I couldn't really sleep over at other people's houses. I thought there was no possible way I could LIVE away from home. I missed home the first two days and then I was fine. I wasn't crying to get back home. I go home on the weekends and I guess that helps a lot.

i wasn't homesick when i left home. especially since "home" is about 45 minutes away. LOL i like being away from the parentals and everything that comes with it. when it comes to studying, i'm just lazy and i can't blame it on anyone else but myself.
& she could hardly breathe without you

I was homesick for the first trimester or so. After that I felt about equally happy at home or college. Ultimately, I think that being 1000 miles from home at a school where I didn't know anybody kind of forced me to make new friends.

I'm homesick all the time -- I live in Indonesia, so it's not like I can fly back home for Thanksgiving break or anything. But my homesickness isn't really the big display of crying and being sad (though it's happened about twice), it's more of an ache. Like something will remind me of Indonesia, and I'll just be like 'I really wish I was home now.' But I was surprised at how homesick some Americans were, and they would live a couple of states over -- or in some cases, even just in the small town where my uni is.

I wasn't homesick cos I was so used to being away from my parents and my home (was living abroad on my own the year before that for high school). But I did have a hard time adjusting to the new environment. It was a totally different country for me and everything was just so foreign. I didn't have that many friends too so I got quite depressive at first but then I managed to pull myself through it. However, I still catch the first flight out whenever I have semester break even if it's just 5 days.

i'm HELLA homesick. well..i've been here about 4 months now. and the first three months i was super homesick. but ever since i went home for thanksgiving...it's subsided a bit.

but i think it was hard for me cuz i've never moved before in my life. i've lived in the same house for 20 years...and tehn i suddenly uprooted by myself to a place where i didn't know a single person and i was 10 hours away.

but i'm doing much better now. =) still miss my mom like crazy though.
