Animation: I don't make animated gifs.Protection: Avast, Ad-Aware, Spybot. Also helps to have a hardware router and a firewallInstant messaging: I use Yahoo, but only because it's what my employer requires. I don't generally use IM at home unless I'm working from home.Customizing desktop: I don't customize, and I can't recommend you do either - it hurts performance and third party software for doing could be malware or virus laden if you aren't careful. Yeah, 99% likely it is safe to use, but that 1% can really ruin your day if your number comes up

Not true at all. And the dangers that lurk in the Linux world require much greater skill and knowledge to detect and fix. The people who create malware for Linux generally know a hell of a lot more what they are doing than do the windows script kiddies

You still really don't any protection software on your computer because Linux doesn't get any adware or spyware, and it has very few viruses and the chances of you getting a virus on Linux is very small, the amount of viruses reported on Linux last year was 4, and even if you do get a virus the effect it has on your system is very small this is why just about every company uses Linux for servers because it is such a stable environment. Also the dangers lurking around the Linux world are alot smaller than the dangers lurking around the windows world, well if you know what your doing in Linux they are but if you don't know a thing or two about computers you shouldn't be using Linux in the first place. And lol at the windows script kiddies....when will they learn lol
