For as long as I can remember I've always used Memorex CD-R's and while I have had no problems using them for music they are sooo unbeleiveably horrible for data of videos or just regular files. My computer can't even read the whole file right after burning it! So I'm done with memorex. Can anyone recomend a good CD-R brand for just regular audio cd's or for mp3 cd's?

I also need help with a good DVD-R brand. I'm using Maxell right now. I've only burned a few dvds because since I've gotten my computer I've not had to delete anything off of it to free up space since I have 460gb. But now I'm starting to run out of space and need to get rid of some of the dramas and other shows that I want to keep.

Thanks for any help suggestions are very much apprecaited.

for dvds, I really like Taiyo Yuden.. they can be hard to find though..but NewEgg has em.

Sony for DVDs.

For CD data, I don't know, I just use a flash drive.

For DVDs use Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. Verbatims are sold the same brand name. Taiyo Yudens are available either under their own name and they're also the ones that make DVD spindles that say Made in Japan on them. For example, some Sony and Fujifilm 50 pack spindles say Made in Japan and are in fact genuine Taiyo Yuden DVDs. However, it's getting very rare to find them nowadays as stores are trying to sell the "cheaper" versions that are Made in Taiwan and are of lesser quality. Verbatims are much easier to find at places like Best Buys and they are of top notch quality despite being manufactured in Taiwan.

For CDs, your best bet for both data and audio are gonna be Fujifilms sold at Best Buys. Just make sure they say Made in Japan on them as those are manufactured by Taiyo Yuden and are of the finest quality. I haven't checked lately but they average around $15 for a 50 disk spindle.

Now is a good time to find deals on these kinds of disks as Best Buys, Staples, Fry's Electronics etc etc... will usually have great deals on these CDs and DVDs. Just watch the ads carefully! Don't pay more than $20 per 50 pack of DVDs! That's the rule!

I've never seen a pack of DVDs of more than 20 that was less than $20.

If you live in the US... watch the ads for Best Buys and other stores for similar or even better deals. Christmas season is when they go wild on the discounts.

Also, do not waste your time and money on other brands. The "brand" of DVD means absolutely nothing because most do NOT actually make the disks. For example, when you buy "Memorex" the disks could of been made by the CMC Magnetics factory, Prodisc factory, Ritek factory, Moser Baer factory... etc. You just don't know. There are literally HUNDREDS of different brands but only a handful of FACTORIES actually manufacture the disks. The disks are then BRANDED by companies like Memorex, Maxell, Sony, etc etc etc.

So what you actually want is disks made from a known high quality FACTORY, not brand. Taiyo Yuden and Mitsubishi Chemicals Corp (Verbatim) are the top two manufactures right now. There is no need to buy lesser quality stuff when you can buy the high grade stuff for CHEAP right now.
