Bae Yong Joon to Debut Idol Group

Hallyu frontrunner Bae Yong Joon is expanding his influence in the entertainment industry through an idol group under his company, Key East Entertainment.

According to reports, it will be an all-male idol group to debut next year.

A Key East Entertainment representative is quoted as saying “We have started looking for members but have not decided how many members there would be nor decided their musical style.”

The actor’s involvement in this endeavor comes as a follow up to his participation in SS501’s Kim Hyun Joong’s solo debut, “Breakdown.”  Kim Hyun Joong praised his senior, saying “Bae Yong Joon really studied music.”

Having already partnered with JYP Entertainment for “Dream High,” speculations abound of another JYP-Key East collaboration with the formation of this new idol group.  Also because of Bae Yong Joon’s status and considerable influence in the industry, industry watchers are also wondering if he would be able to compete with Lee Soo Man and SM Entertainment.

Another entertainment industry representative is quoted as saying “More than competing with other music companies, Key East will be using its overseas experience to help propel its idol group’s success.”

Key East Entertainment currently manages the activities of singer-actor Kim Hyun Joong, “Dream High” star Kim Soo Hyun, Lee Na Young, Choi Kang Hee, Lee Bo Young, Joo Ji Hoon and Lee Ji Ah.
