Director Kim Ki Duk Wins Grand Prize in Polish Film Festival

Acclaimed director Kim Ki Duk has won the grand prize at the New Horizons International Film Festival in Poland, for his controversial movie “Arirang.”

Kim not only directed “Arirang;” he starred in it as well.  In the movie, he reflects on the 15 films he’s directed, as well as the people in his life.  The title comes from the name of a popular Korean folk song.  Kim wrote, “Through “Arirang” I understand human beings, thank the nature, and accept my life as it is now.”

This film also won the top prize in the Un Certain Regard category at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival last spring.  It will also be shown at the 36th Toronto International Film Festival next month.  Sounds like a must-see!

Kim has also directed the critically acclaimed films “3-Iron,” “Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter… and Spring,” among others.
