Synopsis

The story begins in 108 BC, during a time when Gojoseon (Old Joseon) finally succumbs to defeat after a long battle with the Han nation, a time when the remnants of an old empire must face their fate as a people without a nation and without voice, a time that calls for the rising of a people's hero.

It is during this calamitous time that a love blossoms and leads to the birth of Jumong (Song Il-Guk), who will be Buyeo's prince. He is soon persecuted by the greedy faction within the palace headed by the Queen (Gyeon Mi-Ri), who is consumed by jealousy, and the power-hungry royal advisor to the King (Lee Jae-Yong). Yet, through his trials and tribulations, and with the love of three women, the once weak and careless Jumong transforms into a hero and, as recorded in history, becomes the founding monarch of the kingdom of Goguryeo (2nd century BC - 688 AD). But a hero is not one without sacrifices, and this story details such losses, through the tears of Jumong's mother Lady Yoohwa (Oh Yeon-Su), as well the merchant girl Soseono (Han Hye-Jin), who is incessantly pursued by Jumong's greatest adversary and half-brother, Prince Daeso (Kim Seung-Su)...

I agree with the review above. This historical drama is a real 10, maybe even beyond. I've seen many historical dramas before but never at such a magnitudinal sensory level as Jumong's. Everything, from costume to story to acting, creates manifold sensory upheavals in you especially that of emotions. I've never felt more disgusted and hatred with a villain than with Prince Daesu and I've never felt more desperate before than with Sosoeno for having to love a man yet having to marry another. and for Jumong's deep emotional filial conflicts with King Geum Wa even though the King wasn't really his real father. Jumong really opens my eyes to a sense of history and this piece of history that is Jumong's makes me understand the present Korea and Koreans even more. One message stood out, that the founders of present day Korea (North or South) are really very brave, very ingenius, very compassionate and without them, present day Koreas wouldn't be what they are today.

i used to watch korean tv dramas and movies here in the Philippines, this tv drama is number one here and many people love to watch it most especially males...and it's really fascinating....if i can give more than two thumbs up i'll give it..your production was so genorous in producing good story as well as good actor and actresses...as matter of fact...my little brother always imitate the scenes and my parents have to buy him sword and archer so he can play/act like JUmong...lol

it's wonderful to know how KOREA begun their history..its soo colorful & full of life. And its amazing to know that Jumong's character already existed in the past. He fought with storng principles & belief to their Gods. I hope we still have someone like Jumong today. A man dedicated to serve his people with honesty & integrity.

i am absoletely loving this drama it has so much romance and action.i am currently watching it in Hawaii so far i love all the action scenes.i am so happy to Song Il Kook acting again.
