Okaiii, here we go…. First off, before you attempt to watch this drama make sure you have all these available kits:

1) A month’s supply of tissues

2) If you don’t have any tissues, a blanket nearby should do.

3) If no blanket or tissues, your t-shirt will have to be sacrificed.

4) Some ice would be nice, if you have to go to work the next day and don’t want your colleagues to laugh at your puffy eyes.

So yeah, don’t say I didn’t warn you all, be informed, the tissue box is crucial for every single episode. This drama is the ultimate S.A.D. ahjumma drama, therefore not recommended to the guys. If you need a drama to fix you up, like us girls often crave weirdly for, this drama is probably IT. But be warned that you might end up crying till all your tears run dry. Guys would probably think this drama is too depressing. It might be better to just go out and kick some balls.

Invisible Man Choi Jang Soo

Now looking at the title, you’d think Choi Jang Soo is a comic character that can wear his invisible cape and disappear anytime he wants to right? Well, this man Choi Jang Soo is literally disappearing not because of a cape, but because of a disease called ‘Alzheimer’s’. A brain degenerative disorder that normally falls on the elderly, where their brain losses its power to remember, deteriorates and finally causes the patient to be mentally unsound and eventually dies.

Jang Soo is disappearing in his own memory, and slowly turning into a different person because of the disease. He tries his best to make amends to his mistakes before he disappears for good. And that really is the sad part, to see a man trying so hard to become important in the eyes of people he loves and displaying regret for never doing it in the beginning.

The character of Choi Jang Soo was said to be portraying the male version of Choi Jin Shil in ‘A Rosy Life’ but its still fun to throw in a female version in the drama so we get the male and female balance. Hence, So Young’s life gets tumultuous, and we the audience can’t help but feel so sorry for her for being wonder woman all these years because of her husband’s absence and yet still having to cope with so many other challenges. The biggest challenge to So Young was when she had to tell Jang Soo that she was over him when she clearly still loves him. Years of disappointment with his childlike ways has led to bitterness that neither could overcome, and the only solution was to move on without him. In her eyes, he was always a child that she had to take care of, but what she really needed was someone to take care of her.

OTT Drama Drama Drama

Everything about the script is incredibly tragic. It’s as if the writers couldn’t find any satisfaction until they killed all the audience with heartache and sadness. My only complaint is that the scriptwriters really went all out to introduce as much new diseases they could in this drama. Now, we know a lot of tragic dramas out there end up with the female lead coughing blood and going into a coffin 10 episodes later. But this drama is just a little too much when it introduces a different disease on the father, the mother, the cutest son, and the grandfather.

And the Oscar goes to….

So why did I keep watching? No! Its not my addiction to tears but in fact the incredible acting performances of the leads Yoo Oh Sung and Chae Si Ra. Especially the acting of Yoo Oh Sung. Never have I seen such display of real emotions that truly transcends beyond mere acting ability. For me, Yoo Oh Sung’s performance was perhaps one of the most captivating portrayals of a drama character this year. All the other cast also displayed remarkable acting; even the children’s emotions were very raw and real. So watch this if you are someone who appreciates good acting.

Overall this drama has average plot but incredible acting and a great original soundtrack that make the whole drama very memorable indeed. It is another drama that sends out the message about holding on to true love in midst of adversity. It is a story of how love overcomes the good, the bad and the ugly. Bringing new meaning to the marriage vows we often hear of, “in sickness and in health, till death do us part”.
