Actor Bae Yong-jun, known as Yonsama and the most popular Korean entertainer in Japan, will make an appearance in new Japanese high school textbooks, according to results of a textbook examination by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology on Wednesday.
Besides Bae, famous Japanese sports players such as Hideki Matsui and Ichiro Suzuki will be featured in the new textbooks designed to help learners increase their interest level and understanding while learning. They will be used by high school freshmen from next spring.
Bae is used to explain the increasing exchange between Korea and Japan in a geology textbook and described as an icon of the Korean Wave, or Korean pop-culture craze, in Japan. The textbook features pictures of Bae being greeted by thousands of Japanese fans at Narita International Airport.
