Top Korean singers are expected to captivate China by joining an overseas music showcase to be held in Shanghai on Nov. 3 and 4. They include SS501, Fly To The Sky, Wheesung, Kang Gyun-seong, V.O.S. Typhoon and five other singers.
Organized by the Culture and Tourism Ministry and the Korea Culture and Content Agency (KOCCA) to enhance global competitiveness and recognition of Korean music, the annual event is marking its third year.
The first and second showcases were successfully held in Tokyo, Japan, drawing much interest from the local press. This year, it is expected to achieve success again, this time in the world’s most populous country in which Korean pop culture has thrived.
The KOCCA said that it has selected singers who are already quite popular in Korea and have the potential to become stars leading the Korean Wave in China. “We hope that the showcase will serve as an opportunity to produce a new Korean star in China,” it said.
On the sidelines, the agency will organize a meeting where Korean and Chinese music businessmen will discuss ways to promote the exchange of music content between the two countries.
Meanwhile, the singers will leave for Shanghai on Nov. 2 after a joint rehearsal here.
