Weekly Music Chart 2007 – October week 4

2007-10-31 08:02:00 2010-11-24 11:07:12
No. 1 song: It’s such a strong year for rookie singers, as Wonder Girls score their first ever No. 1 song in "Tell Me". Wonder Girls are the second new artistes to record a No. 1 song this year (F.T Island was the first). It is no small accomplishment for the 5-member group, who have undergone a membership change, and overcame a car accident that temporarily slowed down their activities. "Tell Me" also unseated Big Bang’s "Lie" which was No. 1 for the past 7 weeks. Congratulations!

Biggest Mover of the week: Big Mama’s "배반" (Betray) is our biggest mover of the week, moving up 17 spots to No. 7. This song almost certainly will become their biggest hit so far. Their 4th album has been the top seller almost every day this month, which will help this song to move up further in the next few weeks. It is also doing well on internet charts. A serious contender for No. 1.

Hot shot debut: It is a good week for JYP. Wonder Girls are No. 1, and Lim Jeong Hee’s "사랑에미치면" (When you’re crazy in love) is our highest debut at No. 11, just missing out the top 10. Lim Jeong Hee is preparing to debut in the United States next year under the name J-Lim, and this will be her last Korean album before she goes abroad. Appropriately her album is titled "Before I Go, J-Lim". Perhaps this song is a preview of what we can expect of Lim Jeong Hee in the US. The melody is very Amercianized R&B, featuring Big Boi of OutKast. Bang Shi Hyuk, who wrote another Amercianized R&B song in 8Eight’s "Forget Love and Sing", wrote this song for Lim Jeong Hee.

New songs: We have 7 new songs this week.

Songs to watch out:

6. ERU – 둘이라서 (Because it’s the two of us) – Continues to move up steadily towards the top. It was the song that gained the most airplay in Korea last week, according to ChartKorea. Should have no problem entering the top 5 next week.

16. Maybee – 못난이 (Fool) – Singer/lyricist Maybee is back for her 2nd album, and this is the title song. It is an emotional ballad and once again the singer wrote the lyrics herself and teamed up with Kim Gun Woo for the song. Maybee debuted as a singer last year and her debut hit "Sad Smile" was a top 20 song. We expect even better from her this time.

35. Kim Dong Wan – 내 잘못이니까 (Because it’s my fault) – "Handkerchief" stayed in the top 20 for many weeks. Now Kim Dong Wan comes back with another good ballad, which is our 2nd biggest mover this week. Like other Shinhwa members, he recently released a repackaged version of his 1st album. Let see if it will help this song.

41. Kang Kyun Sung – 널볼때마다 (Every Time I See You) – Former Noel member Kang Kyun Sung released his first solo album, and this title song is written and produced by JYP. The music video starred the artiste himself and also actress Bae Doo Na.

42. J-Walk – 여우비 (Light Rain) – Duo comes back after a long layoff. Unlike their previous songs, this song is a mid-tempo R&B ballad. The music video starred actress Han Yeh In, who played the role of Yoon Eun Hye’s younger sister in the drama series, Coffee Prince No. 1 Shop.
