One of K-Pop’s largest annual events, “Dream Concert,” was held on Saturday under the title “I Love You Korea: 2011 Dream Concert.” Co-moderated by KARA’s Koo Hara, Super Junior’s Hee Chul, and actor Song Joong Ki, the 17th “Dream Concert” featured 24 of the industry’s top artists, including: DBSK, BEAST, 4Minute, KARA, SHINee, 2PM, FT Island, f(x), G.Na, Miss-A, Kim Tae Woo, Suh In Gook, Secret, Sistar, IU, Rainbow, After School, U-Kiss, Eru, K-Will, Jewelry, T-ara, 5Dolls, and Flower.
For KARA in particular, it was their first live stage at a local event since last December when the contract dispute with their management agency broke out. They sang “Lupin” and “Jumping,” and kept thanking the crowd and their fans during the performances. DBSK also gave two live performances of their hit tracks, “Maximum” and “Why: Keep Your Head Down.” Also making a surprise appearance was Kim Soo Hyun, the star actor from KBS drama “Dream High,” who gave a solo performance of “Dreaming” and a duet stage of “Maybe” with Miss-A’s Suzy.
“I Love You Korea: 2011 Dream Concert” was held in front of a jam packed crowd of 40,000 fans at the Seoul World Cup Stadium. This year’s event was more impressive for the diversity of its fan base, local media reported, as thousands of foreign fans filled the seats. “More than 4,000 foreign fans, including 2,500 from Japan, came to see the event. Despite limiting the number of foreign media coverage, we had more than 50 press channels from Japan, China, the U.S., Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Latin American and Europe cover the event,” an official from the organizer told local media. “Officials from multiple management agencies in Japan, China, Thailand, and the Philippines came to see the concert as well and talk about potential business deals,” the official added.
Organized by Korea Entertainment Producer’s Association (KEPA) and sponsored by Hyundai Oil Bank and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, “I Love You Korea: 2011 Dream Concert” will be shown on KBS2 on June 10th. Here are some photos from Saturdays’ concert. Enjoy!
