Leeteuk started off by saying, “Even before going to Europe, I was looking forward to the concert because of the fans’ requesting a second concert date, as well as the tickets’ selling out in just ten minutes. However, when I actually went there, it was beyond my expectations.”
Eunhyuk added, “The majority of the audience consisted of foreigners, but they sang along with the Korean songs and danced with us, too. What surprised me even more was the way the fans knew all the fan chants for each song,” as he expressed how impressed he was.
Along with Super Junior, DBSK, SNSD, SHINee, and f(x) of the SM family held two consecutive concerts on the 10th and 11th in France with a total audience of approximately 14,000 fans.
Leeteuk explained that K-Pop’s success in Europe was due to the unique combination and balance of three factors. “We think the fans love the songs produced by worlwide contents, performances on stage, and the visuals of the individual members. Also, I think the real-time updates through social networking sites (SNS) allowed the concerts to be successful.”
Leeteuk concluded by saying, “If past battles were fought visibly with guns and swords, today’s battles are unseen cultural competition. As the Hallyu wave continues to spread, I believe Korea will become a powerful focal point of the world. If I were to compare this to sports, I believe we are national athletes (representatives of our country). We will spread Korea’s good music far and wide.”
