Jung Yong Hwa Channels Manga Characters For "Heartstrings"

Jung Yong Hwa drew inspiration from the characters of popular Japanese manga “Slam Dunk” in giving life to Lee Shin, his cold-hearted guitarist character in upcoming youth melodrama Heartstrings.”

“Other than studying how to portray the character, I also watched ‘Slam Dunk,’” he said in the drama’s press conference held at the Novotel Ambassador Hotel in Seoul on June 23rd. “In it, there is a character who is not interested in anything but basketball and Lee Shin is the same towards music and playing the guitar. I thought to take that feeling for the look and tone of the drama. There is also a character in the manga who rides bikes, which Lee Shin also does.”

The CN Blue leader stars opposite Park Shin Hye, who plays Lee Kyu Won, a gayageum prodigy from a long line of traditional artists. “Heartstrings” will reveal how the two characters meet and fall in love in an arts and music college, as well as how they tangle with other loves and friends to be played by Song Chang Ui, So Yi Hyun, CN Blue drummer Kang Min Hyuk, Woori and Lee Hyun Jin

“Heartstrings” not only marks Jung Yong Hwa’s sophomore acting effort but also his onscreen re-team up with Park Shin Hye. The two co-starred as the beloved Kang Shin Woo and Go Mi Nam/Go Mi Nyu in the 2009 hit “You’re Beautiful.”

“Heartstrings” airs on MBC beginning June 29th.
