SBS’s “Lie to Me” ended happily ever after with a rather straightforward, predictable ending. In the final episode that was aired yesterday, Gong Ah Jung (Yoon Eun Hye), who received a marriage proposal from Hyun Ki Joon (Kang Ji Hwan), didn’t give him a definite answer and left to Jeju Island, stating that she needed time to gather her thoughts. She got a new position as the deputy director at the museum of historic relics in Jeju and continued to keep in touch with Hyun Ki Joon through email. Hyun Ki Joon, who missed Gong Ah Jung dearly, persistently persuaded her to marry each other.
Hyun Ki Joon, who came to Jeju Island for a short business trip, told Gong Ah Jung on his last night before leaving off to Seoul “I arranged a dinner with my aunt. If you show up for dinner wearing this necklace, I will take that as a sign that you have accepted my proposal,” giving her a box with a necklace inside.
However, Gong Ah Jung was unable to make it to the dinner because she had things to take care at the museum that day. Hyun Ki Joon, hurt that she broke her promise with him, gathered a box of tangible items with precious memories of the two and sent it to her as his breakup present.
On the other hand, Gong Ah Jung realized her love for Hyun Ki Joon and returned the necklace box which included a small note approving his proposal inside.
Hyun Ki Joon, who was initially let down by the returned necklace box, headed off to meet Gong Ah Jung as soon he discovered the note in the box.
The episode came to an end with the two, who confirmed their feelings for each other, sharing a deep kiss and Yoon Eun Hye narrating that they’ll soon get married. Unfortunately, SBS’s “Lie to Me” ended with a dismal ratings of 9.2%, according to statistics by AGB Nielsen Media Research. MBC’s “Miss Ripley” and KBS’s “Baby-Faced Beauty” which are aired during the same time slot received 14.2% and 15.1%, respectively.
Meanwhile, the follow-up drama of “Lie to Me” is “Warrior Baek Dong Soo,” which is a drama fusion of historical and martial arts featuring the life of Baek Dong Soo, a real person from the Chosun Dynasty.
