In the second episode of “Heartstrings,” Lee Shin (Jung Yong Hwa) and Lee Gyu Won (Park Shin Hye) challenged each other to a music battle in front of their school’s students and professors. And the winner? Lee Shin, the lead vocalist and guitarist of rock band “The Stupid,” enjoyed a sweeping victory over Lee Gyu Won, a music student studying the gayageum (a traditional Korean instrument) with his mind-blowingly fast guitar performance!
Previously, Lee Gyu Won and Lee Shin got ticked off at each other, attacking that they perform “music without any soul in it.” Furious and upset, the two decided to hold a music battle under the condition that the winner gets slave around the loser for a month.
In the battle which started out as a personal faceoff between the two turned into a huge deal between the two music majors, Lee Shin captivated the audience with his striking visual and sound. To make matters even better, Lee Gyu Won’s gayageum string suddenly popped, and the challenge came to an end with Lee Shin’s victory.
Also, the second episode garnered much attention for featuring how Lee Shin and Lee Gyu Won gradually begins to acknowledge each other’s talents following the battle.
Meanwhile, “Heartstrings” is off to a weak start as its first episode received low viewer ratings of 7.6%, according to statistics by AGB Nielsen Media Research. Meanwhile, KBS’s “Romance Town” and SBS’s “City Hunter” which are aired during the same time slot received 11.1% and 18.4%, respectively.
