SNSD’s Taeyeon and Tiffany appeared on the top ear of the front page of the October 3 edition of English newspaper “London Evening Standard.” The two are captured in the yellow variation of their cheerleader-themed “Oh!” performance outfits. The photo accompanies the teaser “Trends” and the jump line of the article, “London Is Going K-Pop Crazy.”
The article written by Victoria Stewart, which may be viewed online, covers the events called “K-Pop Nights” currently popular among London youth. Ms. Stewart cites the influence of social media like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube in the spread of interest in K-Pop. She names Big Bang, Super Junior, 2NE1 and SNSD as some of the K-Pop wave’s frontrunners in her article.
Local search engines posted what appears to be a fan-taken photograph capturing the Girls’ appearance on the newspaper.
Meanwhile, two of the groups mentioned in the article, are up for more international recognition. Big Bang is nominated for the World Wide Asia Pacific Award at the 2011 MTV Europe Music Awards, to be held in Ireland on November 6. 2NE1 is in the top 10 for the Best New Band in the World for US’ MTV Network’s MTV Iggy.
