MBC’s “I Am a Singer” will hold its last recording on February 6, 2012, in order to regroup and comeback with season 2. The highly popular survival show, “I Am a Singer,” has been losing steam recently, recording its all time low rating of 8.9% for the episode aired on January 22, 2012.
In response to the declining ratings, MBC has decided to temporarily end the show and return with season 2. The show is expected to return with all new singers, but the details have not been decided. In addition, MBC has been dealing with the labor union strike last month. Many issues must be resolved before the producers can begin planning the second season. The expected return date is unknown.
From the very first episode, “I Am a Singer” garnered much attention as well as controversies. The show received great criticism for the unexpected format change after Kim Gun Mo’s elimination, casting of Ok Joo Hyun and Juk Woo just to name a few. However, the show received as much applauds for rediscovering talented veteran singers and old classics. Such example is Park Jung Hyun, who has gained great deal of popularity and even began her own music show, “P.S. I Love You.”
Let’s hope that “I Am a Singer” will return soon with even more amazing performances by great singers.
