Singer Park Ji Yoon is now 31 years old. In 1997, she began as an innocent student, singing “Sky Dream,” and when she suddenly came out with the song “Coming of Age Ceremony” (“I’m No Longer a Little Girl”), everyone praised her surprising yet sensational transformation. She continued to challenge herself with transformations even after this. Eventually, she came out from under her mentor Park Jin Young’s wing, and started to meet indie musicians from Hongik University, singing and writing her own songs. Park Ji Yoon recently announced a new change. She has joined Yoon Jong Shin’s company, Mystic89, and released on October 21 her first single, “Mr.,” with her new agency. This is her first in a year and 8 months since her album in February of last year.
Starting with “Mr. Lee,” and following up in winter, spring, and summer, Park Ji Yoon will release a total of four singles, eventually wrapping it all up into a full album. The singer said that while she learned a lot from her seventh and eighth albums, working on them by herself was hard. Then CEO Yoon Jong Shin invited her to his agency, and when he told her about the project for her new single, she immediately agreed, revealing her own anticipation for this new single.
The title track, “Mr. Lee,” was written and produced by Primary, who is all the rave right now, and is a pop track with an exciting beat and catchy chorus. Park Ji Yoon said, “I’ve always wanted to collaborate with a rapper. Rappers lead the industry in trendy music.”
While she seemed much more like a veteran artist, the singer is still sporting fresh looks that seem like they are from 16 years ago.
Stay tuned to Part 2 of the interview in which discusses the current idol industry, being a female singer in her 30s, and why she decided to join Mystic89.
