Earlier, local news outlet TV Daily reported on an article that appeared on the Japanese media source Daily Cyzo that the reason Kang Ji Young was leaving Kara was due to her relationship with Supernova member Park Gun Il. Now both sides have come out to deny the relationship.
According to TV Daily, Cyzo wrote that dating rumors started between Kang Ji Young and Park Gun Il in October. They both appeared in the TV Tokyo drama “Rainbow Rose” and also acted as lovers for Kang Ji Young’s solo track, “Wanna Do.” Cyzo speculated that Kang Ji Young’s desire to study abroad (one of the reasons that was put forth as the reason why Kang Ji Young wants to leave Kara) was due to Park Gun Il’s influence, who was born in Germany and studied in England. Cyzo also put the forth the evidence that Kang Ji Young was spotted at Supernova’s concert, and that after Kang Ji Young said, “I like paper airplanes,” a tattoo of a paper airplane was seen on Park Geon Il’s shoulder.
TV Daily contacted Kang Ji Young’s agency, DSP Media, about this, and the agency responded, “We haven’t been able to check the story reported in Japan. This is the first time we’ve heard about this. We don’t know anything right now. We will need to check.”
A few hours after TV Daily’s first report came out, DSP has responded with a denial of any romantic relationship between Kang Ji Young and Park Gun Il. To local media outlet Star Today, DSP Media stated, “While it is true that Kang Ji Young and Park Gun Il are friends, they are not dating.” Regarding the supposed influence of Park Gun Il on Kang Ji Young’s decision to leave Kara, the rep from DSP stated, “It doesn’t many any sense that a romantic relationship with Park Geon Il influenced Kang Ji Young’s departure from Kara.”
Supernova’s agency, Maroo Entertainment, stated to local news outlet My Daily, “The dating rumor between Geon Il and Kang Ji Young is not true. The two were friends since a long time ago. While they did film a Japanese drama recently, they are not dating. In addition, [Geon Il] has nothing to do with Kang Ji Young leaving her group.”
Previously, DSP and Kang Ji Young announced that they are decided to part way, with Kang Ji Young wishing to pursue her own career and dreams. Her contract ends this coming April. After, Kara will proceed forward with its remaining three members, Park Gyuri, Han Seung Yeon, and Goo Hara.
