Yang Hyun Suk of YG Entertainment has officially announced the comeback date for 2NE1.
On February 13, YG Entertainment’s blog, YG Life posted, “The first YG runner of 2014 will be 2NE1.” The post revealed that 2NE1 will be returning with their second album titled “CRUSH” on February 28 through online music portals. Offline album sales will start in the first week of March. The album is planned to contain 10 tracks. With the exception of one track that was previously released in Japan, all other tracks will be brand new.
Yang Hyun Suk commented, “This is the first time 2NE1 is releasing a full-length album has mostly new songs since their debut six years ago. While 2NE1 did release a full-length album in 2010, the album contained many of the pre-released singles and did not have as many new tracks.”
Papa YG also revealed that the music video for 2NE1’s upcoming single will be the most expensive one as he commented, “There is a lot of CG work to be done so the teaser clip will be released on February 24 while the full single will be released on February 28.” He also announced that 2NE1’s first performance will be held at their Seoul concert on March 1 and 2.
It is also revealed that three tracks from 2NE1’s upcoming album have been written and composed by CL. Yang Hyun Suk remarked, “When I first heard CL’s music, I was blown away. I’ve seen CL for eight years and I have never expected her to make music and I couldn’t believe it was her first time making music. That’s how good it is.”
YG also explained the reason for the album title, “CRUSH.” He said, “While it can mean to crush or destroy something, it also means to have your heart taken away by someone. Since it is an album that is being released for the first time in a while, instead of trying to put it together, we picked each and every track with much care as if it was the title track.”
Finally, YG left off with, “Since 2NE1’s promotions over the last few years have been weak, I want to promise the fans that 2NE1 will have continuous promotions throughout this year. As much as it took a lot of time to prepare for this album, there are other songs besides the ones in the second album that are ready. But we are saving those songs for the next album, which will contain the 2NE1 members’ solo tracks. CL has been working a lot on making music so I think it’s safe to say that 2NE1’s next album as well as CL’s next solo album can be released within this year.”
Seems like YG has big plans for 2NE1 for the year of 2014! Stay tuned for more updates on 2NE1’s comeback.
