Among the rookie singers that have debuted this year, there are two that catches the eye: sibling duo Akdong Musician (Lee Chan Hyuk, Lee Soo Hyun) and Eddy Kim.
Although their music styles are different, they do have a few things in common: the fact that they are alumni of audition programs, have recieved full support from their agencies, gained the trust of their CEOs, and that they are singer-songwriters.
Akdong Musician won SBS’ “K-Pop Star Season 2” last year. The siblings signed with YG Entertainment and made their official debut on April 7.
The surprising thing was that Lee Chan Hyuk composed the entire 11 tracks, which make up AKMU’s first album. He utilized his talent, which he displayed during the audition program presenting the K-Pop world with “listening music.” The group swept various music charts attracting even more attention, and its streak continues after two weeks since the release of its album.
Eddy Kim is also a graduate of an audition program. He competed in Mnet’s “Superstar K Season 4” in 2012. His musical charm was so distinctive that he was named as a front-runner in the competition. Since the show, Eddy Kim signed with MYSTIC 89 with Yoon Jong Shin as the CEO and has been working on his album.
The product of his hard work was finally released on April 11. It was originally decided that “Push & Pull” would be his title song, but due to the positive response of the fans towards “The Manual,” his agency decided on a double title.
“Two Years Apart,” which Eddy Kim previously performed on “Superstar K Season 4,” also gained attention once again as the track was included in his debut album.
Despite the fact that they are both rookies, AKMU and Eddy Kim have debuted with music they created. Both artists are expected to receive much attention as they present K-Pop fans with their own music different from the stereotypical music and performance.
