“Infinity Challenge” is undeniably one of the most popular variety programs of recent times. The fact that it has lasted this long – it just celebrated its 400th episode, and next year will be the show’s 10th anniversary – also probably speaks to the show’s staying power. What’s so great about this particular variety show? If you have yet to be enlightened by this addicting program starring Yoo Jae Suk, Park Myung Soo, Jung Joon Ha, Jung Hyung Don, No Hong Chul, and Haha, here are seven reasons why you should start watching it!
1. They take this “challenge” thing really seriously.
You see that word “challenge” in the show title? Yeah, that’s there for a reason. Learn how to row and participate in a rowing competition? Racing cars? Bobsleigh? Wrestling? Cheerleading? Sing musicals? They will do it, and they’ll give it their all.
2. The parodies are to die for.
The parodies they do on the show are hilarious beyond belief. Yoo Jae Suk covering Taeyang’s “Eyes, Noses, Lips” and Jung Hyung Don’s “Crooked” are some recent favorites.
3. They aren’t afraid to make their guests work.
Making So Ji Sub wear an embarrassing flower cap, pranking John Park until he tears up, forcing clueless Lee Joon to row on their rowing team, fooling around with Thierry Henry with their crazy games… Even the fans aren’t safe. This show loves to put their guests to work for a laugh!
4. The members have their own sets of absurd characters.
The members of “Infinity Challenge” each have a list of characters that will appear from time to time, and they are simply ridiculous. Haha’s Hybrid grew his second heart in grade six, and Jung Joon Ha has Nora who recites poetry whenever she can. No Hong Chul’s got an alter ego who sings non-stop.
5. Even the staff and the managers are hilarious.
They’ve got a writer who can dance SHINee’s “Sherlock” like nobody else, and another writer who isn’t afraid to low-kick the members with her muay thai skills. Sometimes the members’ managers will make an appearance too, and shock the members with the exposé of their off-screen behavior.
6. Every episode is a surprise.
“Infinity Challenge” is one of those rare variety shows without a set format. In fact, the members are notorious for ignoring the show’s guiding script. Be prepared for anything, like a blockbuster-level zombie special with 200 extras to end only 30 minutes in, because MC Yoo dropped the cure and didn’t know what to do. You just don’t know what can happen on this show.
7. It’s a show with a heart.
One of the main reason why viewers are so devoted to “Infinity Challenge” is that it is ultimately a show with a heart. Throughout the show’s history, there were countless moments when the members’ sincerity moved the audience. From the recent example of MC Yoo voluntarily paying tribute to RiSe and EunB on the radio special, to how members cry and hug each other after their hardest challenges, the show has the ability to make you cry after an hour of laughing.
If you aren’t already watching “Infinity Challenge,” you are totally missing out! And those of you who already watch it, what are some of your personal favorite moments?
