EXO members Baekhyun and Suho recently sat down in their dressing room before a performance to talk about the response to their second full album, which was released on March 30.
“I was happy to hear that the album is being called ‘unconventional,'” says Baekhyun. “We always try to show a new side of ourselves, so it’s a great compliment to have it be called ‘unconventional.'”
When talking about the choreography in their performances of their new single “Call Me Baby,” Suho says, “The choreographer designed the main moves, but we came up with the detailed things on our own. A lot of our personal ideas went into the performance.”
He adds, “We paid a lot of attention to the feeling that is conveyed by each of the movements in the choreography. Instead of focusing on moving in sync, we decided to try to suit the overall feeling of it as if it was freestyle. Although it gives off that impression, we rehearsed a lot. Also, the choreography is set to a faster beat and more detailed than our previous songs, so I think this one is the most difficult of them all.”
They also fill fans in on the current state of fellow member Tao‘s ankle injury. While Tao appeared in their April 2 performance on “M!Countdown,” he has had to refrain from participating in performances after that.
“Tao is recovering right now,” says Baekhyun. “He thought he was doing a lot better so he joined us for the performance. But he realized after he did the rehearsal and the preliminary recording that he overdid it. After ‘M!Countdown,’ he went to the hospital straight away and received treatment.”
To wrap up the interview, Suho says, “This is our first comeback in a long time, so we’re planning on doing promotions for a long time too.”
