The MBC drama “Flower of the Queen” has become the subject of a controversy after netizens spotted that a car on the show was carrying an imitation of a real license plate.
On May 13, a user posted to an online forum that their car’s license plate number had been stolen. They said that they had received a parking ticket, but when they checked the photo that was attached to the ticket, they only recognized their license plate number – the pictured car was not theirs.
An eagle-eyed netizen replied to their post suggesting that they check out the car used in MBC’s “Flower of the Queen,” and attached a screencap from the show that featured the car, complete with the same license plate.
Netizens then began to take to the show’s official message board to complain to MBC about the fact that they had appeared to have imitated a real license plate number for the drama, which not only led to the owner being fined for the production team’s parking violation but is also a crime.
On May 14, MBC responded to the controversy. “The car’s license plate used on ‘Flowers of the Queen’ was an error made by those in charge of props for the show,” they say.
“In order to resolve this issue, the director and producer will be meeting with the owner of the car at the Seocho District Office,” they add. “We will be posting an official statement on our forum soon.”
