Hi everyone! It’s Heylinni here 🙂 I’ve been playing around with my cushion-based foundation lately and starting to rely on it more often in all my makeup looks. As a Pink Bird Blogger for Etude House, I often get sent their innovative cushion products. Last week, I realized how many different types of cushion makeup I had actually received in the past year! From Magic Any Cushion to Pearl Aura Any Cushion to Pink Wish Tree Any Cushion, they all gradually started building up in my drawers. So it got me wondering – what is the difference between all of these cushions that are seemingly similar? Is one better than the other for my skin? Are they each suited to different situations? Or have I just been collecting a bunch of the same product with different packaging?
I decided to find out the answers. Today’s post will be a collection of all my research: distinguishing between the different types of cushion foundations that exist within the Etude House brand! You can read more about the basics of cushion makeup in this previous Soompi article.
The Precious Mineral Any Cushion is the original cushion foundation. It quickly became Etude House’s third best-selling product (just behind the famous Moistfull Collagen Cream and the Precious Mineral BB Bright Fit cream). Its main beauty point is flawless coverage that applies easily and quickly without caking. Among its benefits are wrinkle prevention, moisturizing, sebum control, brightening ingredients, skin tone correction, and sun protection (SPF50 PA+++).
This original product consists of a high-cover layering system with three main features. The outermost ring is a pearl-white layer mineral powder with rich minerals and amino acids to provide an improved brightening effect to the skin. The second layer is a film-forming layer, which allows the cover powder to adhere to the skin. The final component is a cover powder to enable instant blemish coverage. Each of these effects lasts eight hours!
The Precious Mineral Any Cushion comes in three shades: N02 Light Beige, W13 Natural Beige, and W24 Honey Beige. This is a great one to try out if you have a normal skin type and are curious about what cushion foundations can do!
To be honest, Precious Mineral Moist Any Cushion is one of the products that I haven’t personally tried in the Etude House line. It’s extremely similar to the original Any Cushion, with the same three shades. However, as you can probably tell, the main difference is that this cushion is more moisturizing, and is therefore recommended for people with dry or combination dry skin.
This can serve as a BB or a CC cream as well, with smooth textures like moisturizing cream to keep the face hydrated, especially in the dry winter season. Its six main effects are similar to the Precious Mineral Any Cushion – brightening, anti-wrinkle, UV protection, tone corrector, moisturizing, and glossiness.
The Precious Mineral Moist Any Cushion is made of baobab water (26.7%) for intense hydration. It also contains hyaluronic acid, which helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles and makes the hydration period four times longer-lasting than regular cushions. The creamy texture of the compact provides sleek skin conditions and a special” Glow Lock Complex” creates a transparent layer on the skin to enhance glossiness. So it’s a great choice for people who are worried about wrinkles and/or have dry skin.
The Precious Mineral Magic Any Cushion was seen as kind of a version 2.0 of the original Any Cushion. I like the new pastel colors in this range, which are a nice change of pace from the original beige shades. Within the Magic Any Cushion range, there is pink, mint, and peach. Sounds a little strange, but each shade is suited for a different skin tone!
Pink: Will make pale skin look more vivid. Pick this color if your skin gets flushed when exposed to sunlight, vivid pink or red lipstick look good on you, or people often say you look pale.
Mint: Will make ruddy skin look more even-toned and natural. Pick this color if your skin is red or gets flushed easily, orange of coral lipstick looks good on you, or your cheeks look naturally blushed.
Peach: Will make dark and dull skin look clear and bright. Pick this color if your skin is somewhat dark, gets tanned easily, or nude or peach lipstick looks good on you.
The Magic Any Cushion introduces a couple of other new features. There’s less focus on moisturizing and sun protection (although it still has an SPF of 34), but pearl mineral powder and albutin within the ingredients helps render the skin clearer and brighter, whereas adenosine is added for anti-wrinkle treatment. Basically, Magic Any Cushion is good for people who want a brighter skin tone.
The Precious Mineral Any Cushion Pearl Aura is the newest release in the Any Cushion Line. It only comes in two shades at the moment, Natural Pearl Aura and a Light Pearl Aura. It contains pearl brightener to create a pearly aura skin with full coverage and high-glow effects.
This cushion creates a glowing and radiant effect (think of the dewy, flawless complexions of ulzzangs). You can see straight off the bat that this Pearl Aura Cushion is quite different to the Any Cushion. It’s got white spots in the middle of the cushion that blend with the beige foundation. The beige shade is for coverage, while the white areas are combined or tone-up and brightening, to add more shine to your skin and give it that pearly aura.
I’d recommend this product for people with dull skin of any skin type.
The Lock’n Summer collection came out last year, branded as the perfect base makeup for hot summer days. It was limited edition packaging, with technology that is very similar to the other cushions in the line. The shades it comes in are N02 Light Beige, W13 Natural Beige, and W24 Honey Beige. It’s called a “clear proof” cushion specially developed for sunny days and beach weather because of its waterproof qualities. This allows you to wear makeup for cover-up at the beach (thought not too many people tend to do that!) and prevents the sweating off of all your coverage! Apparently, the cushion is a little thicker than the original as well. It is recommended for people with normal skin.
The Pink Wish Tree Cushion was another limited edition product that came out during December last year. The proceeds from this special collection went to charity. The pink compact contained N02 Light Beige; the green compact contained W13 Natural Beige. Apart from that, I think that this one didn’t really differ all that much from the original cushions. It’s definitely a cute idea though and those who own this particular compact are really lucky because their purchase went to a great cause!
Adorable Disney Minnie Mouse inspired packaging!
The beautiful new limited edition Dreaming Swan collection displays gorgeous watercolor designs of fashion illustrations.
And that’s a brief overview of the main Precious Mineral Any Cushions within the Etude House line! I hope you learned a lot more about their Any Cushion technology and hopefully found one that best suits you. Ultimately, they are all great, decently-priced products that I’m happy to use within my beauty routine.
Let me know what you think and which of the cushions is your favorite!
