“The Scholar Who Walks the Night” released stills of TVXQ‘s Shim Changmin and Lee Soon Jae in an intense battle of wills, heightening expectations. In the drama, Shim Changmin and Lee Soon Jae play grandson and grandfather, but they do not seem to have the best of relationships, inciting curiosity.
On June 30, MBC‘s new Wednesday-Thursday fantasy melodrama “The Scholar Who Walks the Night,” which is set to air its first episode of July 8, revealed stills of the crown prince Lee Yoon (played by Shim Changmin) and the king Hyunjo (played by Lee Joon Jae) glaring at each other.
The crown prince Lee Yoon is the grandson of Hyunjo and the son of the late prince Sadong. He has been thrown out of the palace due to the cabinet and the king’s disapproval of his non-studious and indulgent lifestyle, and is living in a house outside the palace as a result. In one of the stills, Hyunjo looks on in disapproval as Lee Yoon enters the palace in a royal robe.
In another still, Lee Yoon is defiantly proud even as the king Hyunjo glares at him. He seems to say only with his eyes that he will not lose to his grandfather and will continue to act according to his philosophy.
“The Scholar Who Walks the Night” staff said, “In a recent filming, Shim Changmin, who plays crown prince Lee Yoon, and Lee Soon Jae, who plays Hyunjo, shot a scene where they confronted each other. With the charisma of the very experienced Lee Soon Jae and that of Shim Changmin with his strong acting with his eyes, the staff at the scene had to hold their breath.” They then teased, “The reason why the two men, who are grandfather and grandson, have such a conflicted relationship will be revealed on July 8, so please check it out through ‘The Scholar Who Walks the Night’.”
Meanwhile, “The Scholar Who Walks the Night” also has a star-studded production team including producer Lee Sung Joon, who also produced “Empress Ki” and “The Moon That Embraces the Sun,” and writer Jang Hyun Joo, who scripted “Coffee Prince.” It will air its first episode on July 8.
