“High Society” aired its first episode on June 8 and focuses on the love story between a privileged heiress and a man who comes from a more meager background. Writer Ha Myung Hee who penned “One Warm Word” in 2014 and director Choi Young Hoon are helming the drama. The leads consist of Uee, Sung Joon, Park Hyung Sik, and Lim Ji Yeon. The drama also boasts talented supporting actors including Yoon Joo Sang, Go Doo Shim, Lee Sang Woo, Yoon Ji Hye, Yoo So Young, Bang Eun Hee, and more.
Viewership ratings research company Nielsen Korea reports that “High Society” started with 7.3 percent ratings. The ratings have continued to steadily rise with each episode and reached 9.4 percent ratings on their most recent episode on July 6. Meanwhile KBS 2TV’s “I Remember You” received 4.6 percent while MBC’s “Hwajung” garnered 8.9 percent ratings.
“Mask” released its first episode on May 27 and tales the tale of a woman who wears a figurative mask as she assumes the identity of her doppleganger. Mystery, danger, and romance are intertwined in the story. “My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho,” “Heirs,” and “Jang Ok Jung, Living by Love” PD Bu Sung Chul and “Secret” writer Choi Ho Chul are in charge of the drama. Meanwhile actors Soo Ae, Joo Ji Hoon, Yeon Jung Hoon, Yoo In Young, Jung Dong Hwan, Jun Kook Hwan, Yang Mi Kyung, INFINITE’s Hoya, and Park Joon Geum make up the main cast.
With its first episode starting out in first place at 7.5 percent ratings, the drama was off to a great start. Since then, the ratings have risen as interest in the drama grows. The most recent 12th episode boasted 11.1 percent ratings with commercials around the time slot being sold out.
A representative from SBS commented, “Both ‘High Society’ and ‘Mask’ have chaebol (wealthy conglomerate) main characters. Viewers have been fascinated by the different stories within the dramas which have led to both being first place in their time slots. Both dramas will continue to have exciting stories so we ask for more interest please.”
