After six years performing together, five-member boy group SHU-I has now disbanded. The group debuted in 2009 with the song “Bomb Bomb Bomb” in Korea, and then focused on their activities in Japan starting in 2011, where all their albums made it into the top ten on the Oricon chart. They then made a comeback in Korea in 2013 with their first mini album.
It was recently announced on the group’s official homepage that the group is disbanding and members Inseok, Changhyun, and Minho will be beginning their mandatory military service next year. “After the three of them complete their service, they hope to be active in Japan,” the notice says.
While the three members are planning to start again in a new group when they return, remaining members Hyunjoon and Jinseok are taking a different path.
Jinseok is said to be considering whether or not to continue activities in Japan. He writes, “These past six years felt like they went by very fast. For me, SHU-I is something I’m proud of, and that changed my life. Although our activities will be different in the future, we will continue to support each other.”
Best of luck in the future to all the members of SHU-I!
