K-Pop now has its own category on the iTunes store in the United States!
It seems that iTunes is recognizing the popularity of K-Pop in America by making it easier for fans to find their favorite albums and tracks by Korean artists. If you’re in the United States, you can now select K-Pop as a category when you’re browsing for music by genre in the iTunes music store. This makes Korea the first Asian country to have its own genre on iTunes in the United States!
In addition, the main page on the American iTunes store’s music section currently links to the K-Pop genre with a promotional banner for EXO‘s new winter album “Sing For You.”
Kim Il Joong, the director of the American branch of the Korea Creative Content Agency, commented on December 11, “It isn’t news that K-Pop is popular internationally. But this official creation of a category is a matter that is worthy of recognition, as it acknowledges K-Pop as a genre of music in the international market alongside genres such as Latin, reggae, and pop.”
Are you glad to see K-Pop classified as its own unique genre?
