This year’s “2016 Idol Star Athletics Championships” was broadcast as a Chuseok special on September 15. Jun Hyun Moo, Girl’s Day’s Hyeri, and Lee Soo Geun were the main MCs for the event!
Participating groups this year include BTS, GOT7, TWICE, Apink, GFRIEND, MONSTA X, EXID, VIXX, B.A.P, BTOB, B1A4, AOA, Lovelyz, Oh My Girl, Block B, MAMAMOO, ASTRO, MADTOWN, Cosmic Girls, Heo Young Ji, and more. Unfortunately, SM Entertainment artists were not present in the games as they recently traveled to Hawaii in honor of the company’s 20th anniversary.
This was the first time for rhythmic gymnastics to be apart of the games! Many predicted for Cosmic Girls’ Cheng Xiao, who wanted to be a rhythm gymnast when she was young, to be the strongest contender. And in the end, she was able to overcome FIESTAR’s Cao Lu with 13 points for first place!

GFRIEND and EXID made it to the finals, beating out many other groups such as MAMAMOO and TWICE. The two girl groups went head to head with extremely similar scores, but in the final round EXID scored for gold! GFRIEND earned the silver medal, while Lovelyz gained the bronze medal.

MONSTA X and GOT7 made it to the final round, but with MONSTA X’s Minhyuk achieving a perfect 10 score three times in a row, MONSTA X was able to win the gold! GOT7 earned silver, while BTS earned bronze.

Though BTOB’s Minhyuk started running well, in the end SNUPER’s Woo Sung placed first!
Throughout the game, BTOB’s Minhyuk scored three goals and was able to bring the game to a close tie. But in the end, the gray team won six to five!
400-Meter Relay — Girls
TWICE’s Chaeyoung made a good start and was the first to pass on the relay stick. However, Oh My Girl’s Binnie achieved an impressive result by running far beyond all the other teams, securing a win for Oh My Girl!
400-Meter Relay — Boys
BTS’s Jimin started off strong, quickly passing the baton to the other members, with Jungkook taking the final lap. As some of the runners fell, Jungkook succeeded in running far ahead, and gained first place for BTS! Second place was BTOB, with B.A.P placing third.
With all of the scores combined, the team that won the overall Idol Star Athletics Championships gold medal was Team B, comprised of BTS, EXID, Heo Young Ji, and SNUPER!
