Jun Ji Hyun has been replaced as a commercial model for a Chinese company as a result of what appears to be the Chinese government’s ban on Korean entertainment.
On November 24, various media outlets in China reported that a mobile phone company that signed Jun Ji Hyun as a model recently replaced her with Angelababy. Jun Ji Hyun’s contract with the brand started in October but has now ended after just one month. Song Joong Ki was replaced with a Chinese actor for a brand he was modeling earlier in August.
These incidents followed reports of China following through on their ban on Hallyu content which they announced in August, as retaliation against the deployment of THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) in South Korea, which are defense against missile threats from North Korea. As a result, Korean celebrities have had to pull out of dramas and have been edited out of broadcasts.
