“Produce 101 Season 2” is under fire for their point calculations in the third episode.
In the episode that aired on April 21, the trainees participated in group battles for the chance to win 3,000 extra votes. These are added to the total votes that determine the first trainees to be eliminated.
The first battle was between the two groups of trainees who performed 2PM’s debut track “10 Out of 10.” Although both teams impressed with high-energy performances, viewers noticed a problem in the point system. The team scores were determined through the sums of the individual scores, but the first team (Kim Tae Min, Kim Tae Woo, Kim Hyun Woo, Yoon Jae Chan, Yoon Ji Sung, Lee Hoo Lim) had one less member than the second team (No Tae Hyun, Park Woo Jin, Byun Hyun Min, Ahn Hyung Seob, Yoon Yong Bin, Choi Jun Young, Hong Eun Ki).
The scores were determined entirely by the number of audience votes. On the first team, Yoon Jae Chan got 51, Lee Hoo Lim 25, Kim Hyun Woo 58, Yoon Ji Sung 66, Kim Tae Woo 85, and Kim Tae Min 72. On the second team, No Tae Hyun got 27, Yoon Yong Bin 18, Hong Eun Ki 34, Byun Hyun Min 100, Ahn Hyung Seob 163, Park Woo Jin 31, and Choi Jun Young 28.
As a result, the second team won with 401 points over the first team, which earned a total of 357. However, if the scores were averaged to account for the number of members, the first team would have won with 59.5 points over 57.3 for the second team. This is the system that was used in the previous season for similar circumstances.
Especially since the members of the winning team in the group battles receive an additional 3,000 votes that could play a determining role in their chances of survival on the show, viewers have been raising complaints for the lack of fairness.
