The identity of “You’ve Fallen For Me Bandabi” on MBC’s “King of Masked Singer” was revealed to be a member of a popular girl group who moved the audience when she honestly opened up about her recent struggles as a singer.

The episode of “King of Masked Singer” that aired on July 30 featured a battle between “Bandabi” and “Younghee.” While “Bandabi” enthralled the audience with her performance of S.E.S’s “Just In Love” while “Younghee” showcased her powerful vocals with BoA’s “Valenti.”

Spoiler:

Though the audience loved both performances, “Younghee” moved on to the next round with 73 votes.

Accepting defeat, “Bandabi” took off her mask to reveal that it was Joy from Red Velvet, who has been gaining popularity in recent weeks with their new summer track “Red Flavor.”

Joy greeted everyone and explained why she decided to appear on the show as she said, “Red Velvet’s in our fourth year as a group, and I think we’re at a point in our careers where it feels like we know how things go but we also don’t know a lot of things as well. Because of that, I found myself -”

During the middle of her sentence, Joy seemed to be overcome with emotions and had to take a moment to wipe her tears away. She continued, “I found myself starting to fear people and their scrutiny. Before I joined SM, I used to think that I was the best singer in my neighborhood and I really enjoyed singing. Nowadays, I hide away in the bathroom to sing and I find myself losing confidence day by day.” Joy tearfully confessed, “I keep making things hard for myself by thinking that I need to be the Michael Jordan of singing to be worthy enough to perform in front of people.”

During her interview with the staff of “King of Masked Singer,” Joy also said, “Bandabi is a bear. I think it helped that the mask is smiling and looks really cute because my expression was frozen behind it. I felt at ease today. I think I cried too much on stage when I actually gained a lot of confidence being up there, and I hope to carry that with me going forward. Just like how Michael Jordan excelled in basketball, I hope to become an exceptional singer.”
